Anyone intrested in 5.4L swaps, in here. Need you to opine.
Guy said he'd take 450 for it if i got it by sunday or after sunday it would be $525, well i told him id send the money if he would ship it for that price. He said no, it would be 520 shipped.
I really dont think it takes $70 to ship it. So i really dont trust him or want to deal with him.
So ill just buy a new one in few months..

Speaking of the HPS intakes,.....I'm going to be pulling my intake off for a cam swap and was wondering if someone has ported or modified their intake to improve flow. How was the results? Was it worth the effort?
Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!
I did once... if you have ported heads then it might be worth it. If not, don't bother.
70 bucks shipping is completely normal. It's 40 lbs and a fairly large box plus insurance. You gotta pay to play.

changing my upper setup on my 02 nav swap in my 97 cobra from 99-01 intake to the nav lower and MMR upper. Good idea or not?? Which setup would be better on the stock 02 nav motor?? Also, anyone have long tubes that will fit??
Thanks, Robert
Thanks, Robert
not that one.... The MMR setup is for very high revving 5.4 4v's. Your stock navigator bottom end will blow the **** up if you spin it fast enough to make good use of that intake. Honestly, the intake is going to be difficult to make a "good" purchase of if you stick with the stock 5.4 bottom end. You should at a minimum replace the rods and bearings and fasteners so you can spin it to 7500rpm and make use of that intake.
Navi heads are the hardest to deal with because very few intakes fit them. If I were to be doing it I'd use cobra sourced heads so I could use a cobra intake, or if I had the money, then a Boss intake on GT500 heads.

That intake is looking nice, I went with a GT style t/b, that looks awesome like that. I'll probably redo mine someday but for now I'll keep it like this. Are you running your t/b on the drivers side? If you are, are you using the stock cable, I still haven't test fitted to see if it's going to be long enough to make the turn like that.
cool deal let us know how things go,nice looking job on the intake.looking at the fuel rail hookup i would say it is a passenger side tb hookup
yeah should have gone 5.4! but its all done now waiting on the heads to come back and start finishing it up! and the valve covers should be back thursday! hopefully the intake will be done then too! yeah the tb is on the pass side. hope to have it finished by the end of the month!

At least you have something to comapre to,
having driven mine a little bit.
The 5.4 32V with a properly breathing intake (no restrictions at all)
completely changes the car's personality.
A lot of little extras went into this particular manifold,
I am looking forward to seeing the numbers on this one.
Hi guys,
Been lurking for a while. Was never a 5.4 fan. I had planned on supercharging my 4.6 cobra but I figured might as well go bigger AND add a blower. lol. But I will run it n/a for a short time. I am also on other boards but not as the same screen name. Trying to do this build in stealth. So gonna try and hide my identity as much as possible.
So my build is gonna be a little different probably not the smartest but I'm going the budget minded route... So here's what I'm thinking...
-I picked up a 97 5.4 block for $50 yesterday
-Re-using my cobra B-heads (thats the not so smart part) lol.
-Widening the stock intake 1.5" and shortening the runners 1.75"
-Adding comp cams 106100's (Still can use my stock beehive springs).
-flat tops (w/ .020" off the block) should get me close to 9.8:1. Remember blower
- H beams with arp hardware
-cobra windage tray
-FMS shorties with 3" x-pipe dumped
The car should make peak power in the low 6000-6200 range. Hoping around 390rwhp.
Now as far as what I can re-use from my cobra motor the only thing I have left to buy aside from above would be:
Timing cover
Timing chains
harmonic balancer
melling oil pump (for insurance)
Anything else?
Oh almost forgot. Where can I find the main cap dowels/pins? I have the caps but they guy didn't have those pins.
Thanks.

I figured I would get a response about the B's. Yes I know they suck for n/a but on a budget they are by far the cheapest head to go with and the cheapest to get an intake made for one. It has been proven that a 4.6 B'headed car can get over 370rwhp w/ h/c/i. Adding 50ci should get it close to 390 but with a much better curve.
At the same time Al made his first 5.4 there was a guy that did it with a B's. Made 380/356 without a shortrunner intake and stock compression. With a shortrunner I'm sure it would have made close to 400. Then once the supercharger goes on my peak power should continue to rise all the way to 7k. I see it as a win win.
I think I can get the motor built for under 3k.

Why would you change it? I assume you have RR adapter plates on the navi heads? What is your reason for wanting a change? Do you have a dyno curve to share?
