97, I have an oil filter adapter you can have for the cost of shipping. Save you the hundred and seventy seven bucks.

tsb: you're looking at pretty much what I made... around 300/330 with a LOT of area under the curve. It's about the same difference as a v6 to a v8 swap. Would a turbo make more power in the end (over an NA 5.4), yep but ONLY at wide open throttle. It'll never give the the same grunt at just off idle that the big inch motor does. Even a mild NA 5.4 is a lot of fun and makes traction hard to find.

Without ported heads don't bother with longtubes. They're not worth the expense.

Thanks everyone for the reply... i've spent the last week reading every single post... Another question for everyone, do you think I should look for a non-pi block or pi? Basically whats everyones opinion on the hp difference, if everything else were kept the same, from the increase in compression? There is an increase right? making sure i read that right it was a few days ago been a long few days at work argh

NPI block with PI heads will go from 9.5 to 10.5 compression like i have... and i torqued all my bolts down and i bought the kit for my year pickup the engine came out of and sprocket and trigger wheel fit in nicely maybe u just have a goofup 1peice sprocket who knows.

and maybe couple extra ponies from the compression raising TSB nothing youll be able to tell by the butt dyno i bet ;> and guys im thinking either i need to get a startup chip made or just keep trying maybe got air pockets in fuel raises she started once and i had to shut er off cause the oil thing then i just dumped more in cause i wanted to make sure it would keep running...

well it would start with throttle sounded really lumpy like missing but would die without throttle.... i dont remember if this was before or after i remebered to hook the pcv hose up but i know after i did it would crank and sputter and try to start so who knows but when i did get it to start by itself it ran for about long enough for me to run to front of car lay down on creeper and start to slide under to make sure the adapter was the indeed leaking peice...it was :<

but ive got a new ford adapter coming in today with new oil press sender and a gasket for 177 but it only showed in the picture the 4.6 DOHC and SOHC adapters looking the same but the DOHC doesnt have the water neck so im hoping its right.

but thanks red if its not the right part ull have a PM ;> kinda want to get the car running only day i have off till next wedn at the soonest next wedn after that at the latest and this is my first day off in 9 days

now if someone could answer my drive belt question that would be great cause the 4.6 belt is to tight and a 5.4 would be to long i think cause i dont have all the pulleys a 5.4 would have

We've been through this a couple times now, the CR increase using PI heads on a NPI 5.4 will net you 9.6:1 instead of 9.0:1... The increase in CR is nowhere the same as it is when the same swap is done on a 4.6L.

As far as the oil filter adapter, they are all the same regardless of what block they originated on. I used an old DOHC adapter on mine that had the integral oil cooler. The ones without the oil cooler integrated also work just fine.

Default 5.4L Compression Ratios

I thought I had posted this here, but turns out I did it on anther forum...
According to the Sean Hyland book, here are the CR calculations for a standard bore 5.4 2V setup:

DISH---PI_HD--NPI_HD--4V_HD
0CC----11.01----9.83---9.72---(Stock 4V Piston)
11CC----9.61----8.72---8.64---(Stock 2V NPI piston)
17CC----9.00----8.23---8.15---(Stock 2V PI piston)
23CC----8.47----7.79---7.72---(Stock 03 Cobra Piston)

Welp got the 5.4 running as long as im on the throttle once i slow down it idle hunts then dies so maybe needs its tune to stay running idk but then missed that i had the AC line that is down by the exhaust was touching the exhaust its rubber so of course BOOOM she went ac was working great haha ;> this 5.4 swap been pain in my ***

but no more oil leaking out the adapter and shes full of water and cooling got about 20 miles on it now...

whats left - Modify Hood so i can put it on, get tune so stays running, lowering springs, caster camber plates, 480 miles then a dyno tune ;> had to pull the 24lb injects off use the 19s and take the mark MAF off and use the original stang MAF to get it to run without missing like a som beech i think problem is the 24s i have are a whole different plug style then my 19lb injector plugins

just went back to reds post earlier got about same problems and bout same setup

Stage 2 CMS cams, NPI Bottom End PI Top/19lb injects/stang MAF/3.27 stock gears/stock plen/tbody/BBK style CAI, T-45 trans, the engines there i can telll but the computer just wont leter loose ;>

looks like everyone seems to be doing pretty well. im a 4v guy but those tfs heads are nice and will give me a run for my money haha.

motor and timing cover came in yesterday the transplant begins this weekend and should take about a week pending my intake gets back from mmr in time but thats minor. and other little things like running out of beer and liquor stores being closed when we're still out workin on the car at two in the a.m. lol. im hopin it goes smooth.

just curious whats the dif between flywheels and flexplates bc the look pretty much the same to me and the new shortblock came with one installed. i know i cant use it i just wanna actually know the difference.

flex plate "thinner and not flat surfaced" flywheel "thicker flat surfaced for clutch and heavier ;>" hope that helps

oh and some info about the 5.4 in their fox body it belongs to the guy who programs our reverse osmosis system at our plant and around US for ethanol plants/gojo soap plants and anything that has US Water to its name

but its a 94 i beleive Fox with 5.4 DOHC running 30lbs at 11:1 on E-98 with cams set only on the timing marks pretty much says 5.4 with stock timing marks is maybe off 1 to 2 degrees might hurt a 4.6 not a 5.4 but the car is wicked fast if the rear end has weight in it for traction lol hopefully i get to see it at the Sturgis Mustang Rally this september

with a 4v... the r hood should fit depending on what you do about the intake. May have a little bit of trimming underneath but can't really tell. If it needs any trimming you should look at the MM k-member spacers in 1/2". Won't mess up your suspension but it'll make it clear a cervini's or stock or tru-fibre R hood.

Update on my car!
I've been driving it around without the tune, but have had to adjust the MAF tuner to allow more fuel. I'm sure with the correct timing and fuel trim the car would come to life, but for now when driving the car, it feels soft and un-responcive. It stutters and bogs at low driving rpms. It's not to bad now as I have increased fuel in those areas. At first it was real bad, but has smoothed out. When I tromp on the gas, it is sluggish!
It still pulls better than the stock NPI 4.6l, but It's got more!! When the tach reaches 4000rpm's.............DANG! This thing starts to rocket! ANY GEAR! With stock rear 3.27!!!!
Freaks my wife out and scarres my dad!

I took my 350lbs buddy for a ride thinking "man the car is really gonna be a turd now, but OH WELL". Boy was I wrong! I started it, got on the road, and nailed it.....it was a turd....then! We drove about 2miles and turned aorund, then nailed it again......It stuttered a second then took off! That was the hardest pull the car has done.

I can't wait to get this thing tuned!

Dude those Trick flow heads look sick!

I couldn't help but notice how the exhaust ports are somewhat egg shaped compared to the circular port on stock heads. Anyone happen to know what the flow data is on those bad boys?

96blackgt54 - You're right it's all in the tune. Mine sputtered and hesitated pretty bad at first and if I remember right I gained around 50 trq and 15 hp from the tune alone. Rear tires were pissed at me for awhile. Be careful beating on it too much before you get it on the dyno because mine was dangerously lean around 2k rpms.
