i've been reading for a couple days and finally decided to chime in and say HI an let everyone theres another guy on board for the 5.4 swap.
i,ve found a 99' w/PI heads and everything for $200 which is a plus since i have npi heads now.
and im just planning on boring it .20 over an adding a cam an the hps intake with forged internals.
What is the highest CR i should go with since i never plan on adding boost and dont have a problem buying premium which is 93 here in kansas city i think. i was thinking 11.5 or 12:1 outta the question?

I am from Johnson City. About 2 hours away from Knoxville. I want everyone to know I appreciate the input. I am totally stoked about this swap and plan big things hope to get pics up soon. I know I will have to wait 6 weeks for the intake but that is fine. In the mean time I have decided that I am going to build the motor after all. Just curious, what all would be required to do the DOHC swap and with the 5.4 SOHC what all would I need to take from the 4.6 SOHC and swap over. And Hey we have another one doing the swap.

so i get to start the swap a little bit faster than i anticipated. last week i was drivin home when it was pouring outside and got forced to drive through standing water and it ended up being deeper than i thought. now my motor in my cobra is hydrolocked so a rebuild is in order. im gonna put my b heads on the 5.4 and get my intake widened by mmr. so far i havent seen anyone go this route thus far so im kinda pumped.
my question is which 5.4s came out with a steel crank because im not gonna rebuild one if i find it bc i need to get back on the road as fast as possible for as cheap as possible. also will my stock injectors support a stock 5.4 with the only bolt ons being my twin 62mm tb and densecharger cai and bbk h and flows? not that im gonna skimp on anything as important as my engine but money is tight right now after christmas. any help would be appreciated thanks

the 97-98' have the forged crank.
this link has just about everything you need to know on the 5.4L

I would like to put on a twin turbo setup with the 5.4, this needs to be a DIY install. What do you all think about the turbo from an old T-Bird? Stick or Auto? Or...Should I be looking in a different direction such as EVO or Grand National? I want quick spooling and don't need to rev over 5600 rpms. Any Thoughts!

cams: there is a huge amount of debate on this but suffice it to say that if you want maximum return then custom grinds from HiTech or Cushman are probably your best bet. Other than that, AFM, miles per hour, Comp, Crower, all make good off the shelf grinds. I'd start with a stage 2 cam (HiTech stage 2 or comp xe270ah-13 could both be considered stage 2 for comparison purposes). You can run just about any off the shelf cam with the 5.4 without much of any concern about PTV.
NA_SVT has a good head for this sort of thing so I'll leave it to him to chime in with a really proper suggestion.

For a good DD I'd go with custom grinds without a doubt. I'd go with the fiollowing comp cams lobes ground on a 108LC/straight up:
Intake: lobe #9345, adv dur 274, .050 dur 238, lift .475
Exhaust: lobe #9344, adv dur 270, .050 dur 234, lift .475

Yes but for Audi to run that compression on our gas, they detune the engine significantly, which kills any benefit of running that high of compression. Remember, Europe has 100 RON (equal to around 95, 98 here) and instead making new cylinder heads to compensate for the lower octane gas here, it's cheaper for Audi to just detune the engine. For 93 octane, don't push past 11:1 unless you plan on running race gas.

thanks red. i know you get asked this question everyday about but how much power and torque do you think my b headed 5.4 will make because i know you 2v guys are thrownin down some really impressive numbers. im also gonna have some headwork done while ive got them off. im gonna have the exhaust port raised, the bowls cleaned up a bit, and either a 3 or 5 angle valve job done. im either gonna run the ford gt or fr500 cams dont know which ones yet probably the ones with higher lift.

They are bad ***! Finish welding is complete, they should be coated now and probably done being 3d modeled for the production run of the race units. Street units are next. The difference will be an EGR fitting and maybe a smaller tubing diameter for the street model. We'll see.
European nations also has some much higher octane fuels at the pump than the weak sauce we have here. The down side to high octane is it robs power over lower octane fuels (harder to make it burn). The difference may be that a more aggressive tune (which wouldn't be emissions compliant here) returns much better performance to the euro-driver over the whole RPM band but requires a higher octane fuel and subsequently returns less peak power but probably more area under the curve.
Like the man said, dyno racing is retarded. Peak numbers mean squat... it's average power that makes the car; at least for street cars.

I agree with the man 100%. Yeah Dyno is nice to see what you are getting as far as numbers, but really does not tell you what the next guy has and that my friend can only be found at out at the track. I can't wait to see some numbers for the headers. My buddy and me are planning some mock up soon for the 5.4 DOHC. I can't wait. I know it is a PITA, but man it will be so worth it.

And when I say numbers I meant track times. I would like to pick up a set of your headers and compare them with whatever we come up with to see what differences we may have and times as well. And I am not asking for a hand out, I will buy the ones that you put in production. What do you think?

I'd love an E85 setup. Like I said before though, only 2 stations around here carry it
(and one of them is a nightmare to get in/out of.) BTW r3d.. Can't wait to see pics of the finished product!

It's actually more expensive than regular gas around here. Right now I think it's still at $2.85, whereas 93 octane is currently $1.95. And when gas prices were at their highest last Summer, it was only about 13 cents cheaper.

i know this has probably been answered already but will the timing components and timing cover off of a 4.6 fit the 5.4? im just trying to see what i can reuse and what i need to acquire to to the swap. i should be ready to start in about 3-4 weeks depending on money and how much stuff i need. also when i do the swap im ditching my shitty t-45 and goin auto. what tranny and converter should i look out for? the 4r70w or one out of a lightning because i know they can hold the power of a 5.4. thanks
