ok, i had issues with the 1 piece one. but if it works on your car then good.

According to my Sean Hyland book, it's better to use the one piece gear since it won't shred the key. However, the latest rendition of it is set up for the latest rendition of the trigger wheel so if using it on an older car, the trigger wheel needs to changed as well.

you'll need a timing cover and timing set. Most/all of the rest transfers over.
BTW... spare parts list: going to have a set of ported RR adapter plates in the next few days, also have a set of coated FRPP headers.

thanks red im just tryin to get all the info i can before i start that way it goes as smooth as possible. another question though will my imrc's work with my widened intake for the swap or would it be best to not install them and do the delete?
#5590
thanks red. i know you get asked this question everyday about but how much power and torque do you think my b headed 5.4 will make because i know you 2v guys are thrownin down some really impressive numbers. im also gonna have some headwork done while ive got them off. im gonna have the exhaust port raised, the bowls cleaned up a bit, and either a 3 or 5 angle valve job done. im either gonna run the ford gt or fr500 cams dont know which ones yet probably the ones with higher lift.
The FR500 cams have more lift than the GT cams but they come only in the FR500 cam kit (springs, followers, cams, valves). The GT cams have less duration than both the FR500s and the 96-98 cams, which would be a far better choice. (the 96-98s). However, all of these cams are too short on duration for a 5.4. A 5.4 needs a set of cams with at least 220 degrees duration, anything less and peak power will be low and occur at a very low rpm. 360rwhp without long tubes is achievable. Torque would be in the 350 range.
The exhaust ports do not need to be "raised", they only need opened up a bit and and both the intake and exhaust need a good bowl and short turn cleanup.

Without a doubt, delete the IMRCs.

300 for the plates shipped. for my shorties... 150 shipped.
IIRC it's 26 in and 31 or 33 out on the t56's. otherwise looks right to me.

should be a fairly easy swap then. my friend wrecked her f150. it has 5.4 3v if it costs too much to fix she might sell it to me cheap. so i would just need the computer i think. i would have the harness from the truck

You can use your 2v computer to control it. MMR makes a TB adapter so you can put a cobra TB on it and you are off to the races.

Ah. So is the 3v swap "worth it" then, considering the fact that the parts aren't that much more? Obviously the HPS intake won't fit, but I recall someone saying that Bob might fab one up eventually.

Screw doing a 5.4 swap.... THIS is what I should put in my P71

How much more of a PITA would it be to throw one of those bad boys in?

Nevermind.. Found it. Stock 6.8 produces 305hp/420ft lbs at the crank. And I did find aftermarket headers for them, but they're only available as shorties. Not too many performance mods available, but it would still be pretty good with a bore and higher comp ratio. You're right about the intake though r3d.. Would have to be custom, otherwise it wouldn't fit under the stock hood. I'm sure they're are probably a million other issues as well. I do recall seeing a V10 Mustang at some point though. Wonder if they'd care to share how they did it..
