electronica.

the amount of blind ignorance in this thread baffles me. I can understand someone hearing the entire plane of electronica and deciding "hey it's not for me, but you can listen to it." but claiming that all of it sucks, and it requires no talent to make? reading that just discredits your opinion, obviously demonstrating that you really have no idea what you're talking about. I will never understand why people will not only disregard, but slander something with even being educated on the subject...My buddy is an electronica DJ who masters in breaks and dabbles in jungle (D&B, etc). He's a very talented dude, and can play all but a few instruments (for an 18 year old, his guitar skill level is unparalleled). I've seen the amount of time, and skill he puts into the music he makes with his computer, keyboard, laptop, and a bunch of other weird panel things that I can't even name. It takes a massive amount of talent to be able to make GOOD electronica beats. Sure any retard can program some repetetive snare, bass, and hi hat into a computer and add some crazy synth to make it sound like they know what they're doing. There is a LARGE margin between that and actual good music. But go on...keep beleiving what you want to, no argument could sway your all knowing mind anyways..

wow...now if we don't like something we are ignorant? Slander? your treating this music like its your Mommy.
you aren't going to convince a lot of ppl that it takes tons of talent or skill to push buttons....cut and paste. a music form that exists because of computers and 808's or 303's or ProTools or whatever will never get the full respect like music that comes from REAL instruments...guitars, pianos, horns....etc.
glad you like it though...its better to be into that then getting arrested for stupid **** and breaking bumpers.

So what constitutes music? Does it have to have a traditional instrument to be music? Or can it be made from something out of the ordinary, like the guys who make beats on five gallon buckets with sticks. Music is an organization of beats in such a fashion as to provide a rhythm. Any 3rd grader with music class will tell you this. So with that in mind isn't electronic music full of beats and rhythm? regardless of the who, what, when, where and why the beats are made, it's music none the less. So your point about electronic music not being music at all is mute.

my only point was that music made with real instruments OTHER than a pc and some mixing software will always get more respect by the majority.
I am relieved you still like some real BANDS. y'know the type where some ppl get together with and bang out a tune together.

whats yer point?
lol.
to eveyrone who thinks that making music on a computer is not making music and requires no talent.....
it isnt as simple as telling a computer to make a song, you still have to compose it, but the computer does the playback.
just like how some people can play guitar, they cannot write songs. i fail to see the difference if the kid plucks the string or if the computer generates the tone.
Simply PLAYING an instrument really shows no "Talent"... ANYBODY can play an instrument, it is simple training the hands to play what you want. However not everyone can write music.
if anyone wants to claim that there is no talent in creating music on computers, listen to Orbital. That is some of the most imaginitive stuff ive ever heared. True melodys, great music. Another good one is Underworld, and for Breaks you should check out ColdCut and Krush, for your Drum and base give a shot with LTJ Bukem
honestly, anyone who thinks there is no talent in creating techo, lets see YOU do it. Maybe after several miserable failures at creating something you will finally tip your hat and recognize that the computer can be used as an instrument just as well as a guitar or keyboard.

I actually do know the subject. My friends brother majored in music at UCLA and is now as music producer. He plays guitar, bass, drums (very well at that), but also produces beats and everything. He does it all. I'm just saying there is more talent in actually being able to play a guitar or drums well then programming it into a computer.
anyone can pluck a string, but it takes a lot of effort to play the guitar.
anyone can make a computer beep, but it takes a lot of effort to get those beeps put into aa melody.
oh yeah, for the record i hardly listen to techno anymore. lol. trans is lame, not a big fan of house, but there are some excellent techno bands and some shitty ones. just like there are good and lousy rock bands, country bands, rappers, etc, etc

it takes SKILL to PLAY the guitar, it takes skill to PLAY the keyboard, just as it takes skill to PLAY a computer.
it aint as easy as it looks ive tried it before

I understand anyone can play an instrument, but not everyone can be skilled in playing. True some techno, trance, or whatever you want to call can be skilled in what they do, but I still would take traditional guitar, bass, and drums andyday over computer and drum machine beats. Thats just my opinion. If your into techno then more power to ya. I just prefer to listen to a band who you can actually watch in a concert instead of some dude dancing around by himself while he presses some buttons on a machine.

in fact, the whole idea of labeling it all "Electronica" as one big genra is about as rediculous as classifying both Pantera and Garth brooks into the same genra and calling it something like "guitar"
