Default Dual Exhaust - manifold problems??

I went to a local shop to get a quote for a dual catback system install. The guy there said they won't put dual on a V6 because the manifold will break every time. Anyone heard about or had problems with that?

the manifold won't break... but you will end up with frequent exhaust leaks. This is coming from my experiences, and a few other people that i know, with different setups.

I've got a divorced dual exhaust, two other guys have got X pipes, and one other an H. they basically said until they replaced their headers they were getting exhaust leaks very frequently.

Yep-- it gives you leaks but nothing considerable.... it took three years for my header-gasket to go..

but thats okay, gave me an excuse for MAC LT's

Aren't leaks common with any bolt-on exhaust system?

That's why some people prefer to weld.

Some people prefer welding? Oh my God.

I can't imagine how anyone would take a weld over a bolt-on (aside from money).. but thats just me.

with bolton the clamps will rust...welds may rust also.....can't remove a weld-on system easily.

but you have tight seal with a weld
and weld wont rust if you buy the good pipe to go with it

welds can break, when the exhaust heats up, it could create a hole, exhaust leak while driving, seals up when it starts to cool... ect.

I've got a welded system.

I would personally stay away from welds. I drove a welded catback for two years and had nothing but problems. The corrosion alone snapped three hangers and, what sucks, is if there is ever a problem with a exhaust part.. (ie. catalytic converters, headers, midpipe), you're going to be paying top-dollar to repair or replace on a weld. Whereas the bonus to the bolt-on is that the parts are easily disassembled and replaced, without having to hack off your entire system.

Fair and balanced, welding is cheaper initially. If you have it done by a legit guy, you're okay. Alot of people who weld are hack-jobs, so just be vigilant.

haha, that happend to me a loong time ago. ran an old truck outta oil, lol. i'm VERY familiar with the sound of valves chatterin'. but yeaa it's been like that for a while, i can't remember if it did it when i bought it or not. it hasn't gotten any better/worse over 2 or so yrs so i haven't worried about it. i might get around to diagnosing the sound. who knows might have to get some LT's :-D wahoo!

Same thing started happening recently on my '04. Only stops when the clutch is pushed in. I did a little forum research and there are lots of people with the same thing; a few said it was normal for 99+

hey thanks for your help guys
