Default isnt this a lil weird?

maybe i'm alone in this but does anyone else find it odd that we've invaded a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 and now we're making arms deals with the country all the hijackers came from? shades of another past deal:

gee i wonder what gave the ignorant country that idea.....lol:

President George W. Bush on Al-Qaeda:

"The regime . . . has aided, trained and harbored terrorists, including operatives of al Qaeda. The danger is clear: using chemical, biological or, one day, nuclear weapons, obtained with the help of Iraq, the terrorists could fulfill their stated ambitions and kill thousands or hundreds of thousands of innocent people in our country, or any other."
Source: President Says Saddam Hussein Must Leave Iraq Within 48 Hours, White House (3/17/2003).

President George W. Bush on Al-Qaeda:

"The liberation of Iraq is a crucial advance in the campaign against terror. We've removed an ally of al Qaeda, and cut off a source of terrorist funding. And this much is certain: No terrorist network will gain weapons of mass destruction from the Iraqi regime, because the regime is no more."
Source: President Bush Announces Major Combat Operations in Iraq (5/1/2003).

President George W. Bush on Al-Qaeda:

"One of the greatest dangers we face is that weapons of mass destruction might be passed to terrorists who would not hesitate to use those weapons. Saddam Hussein has longstanding, direct and continuing ties to terrorist networks. Senior members of Iraq intelligence and al Qaeda have met at least eight times since the early 1990s. Iraq has sent bomb-making and document forgery experts to work with al Qaeda. Iraq has also provided al Qaeda with chemical and biological weapons training. And an al Qaeda operative was sent to Iraq several times in the late 1990s for help in aquiring poisons and gases. We also know that Iraq is harboring a terrorist network headed by a senior al Qaeda terrorist planner."
Source: President's Radio Address, White House (2/8/2003).

President George W. Bush on Al-Qaeda:

"The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on September the 11, 2001 -- and still goes on. That terrible morning, 19 evil men -- the shock troops of a hateful ideology -- gave America and the civilized world a glimpse of their ambitions. They imagined, in the words of one terrorist, that September the 11th would be the 'beginning of the end of America.' By seeking to turn our cities into killing fields, terrorists and their allies believed that they could destroy this nation's resolve, and force our retreat from the world. They have failed."
Source: President Bush Announces Major Combat Operations in Iraq Have Ended, White House (5/1/2003).

President George W. Bush on Al-Qaeda:

"Evidence from intelligence sources, secret communications, and statements by people now in custody reveal that Saddam Hussein aids and protects terrorists, including members of al Qaeda. Secretly, and without fingerprints, he could provide one of his hidden weapons to terrorists, or help develop their own."
Source: President Delivers "State of the Union", White House (1/28/2003).

President George W. Bush on Al-Qaeda:

"He's a threat because he is dealing with Al Qaida. In my Cincinnati speech I reminded the American people, a true threat facing our country is that an Al Qaida-type network trained and armed by Saddam could attack America and leave not one fingerprint."
Source: President Outlines Priorities, White House (11/7/2002).

President George W. Bush on Al-Qaeda:

"With every step the Iraqi regime takes toward gaining and deploying the most terrible weapons, our own options to confront that regime will narrow. And if an emboldened regime were to supply these weapons to terrorist allies, then the attacks of September the 11th would be a prelude to far greater horrors."
Source: Address to the United Nations General Assembly, White House (9/12/2002).

i could go on but...all of these statements were proven without merit by the way...i'm just sayin...bush used the 9/11 attacks to get us into iraq alot more than he used the un defiance scenario...and now here we are on the verge of supplying weapons to the saudis...kinda screwy if ya ask me

I agree. 9/11 was an excuse to go in...

The media/general population portrays that 9/11 is the reason why we are there which is false.

After 911 I think we had to go engage the enemy in the Middle East somewhere. Saddam Hussein gave us an engraved invitation on a silver platter by chronically violating legally binding UN Security Coucil UNSCRs in the following order:

* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, June 28, 1991
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, February 5, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, February 19, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, February 28, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, March 6, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, March 11, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, March 12, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, April 10, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, June 17, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, July 6, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, September 2, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, November 23, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, November 24, 1992
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, January 8, 1993
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, January 11, 1993
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, June 18, 1993
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, June 28, 1993
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, November 23, 1993
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, October 8, 1994
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, March 19, 1996
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, June 14, 1996
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, August 23, 1996
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, December 30, 1996
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, June 13, 1997
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, October 29, 1997
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, November 13, 1997
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, December 3, 1997
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, December 22, 1997
* UN Security Council Presidential Statement, January 14, 1998

Thats why we are there, and needed to go there.

Interesting original post.....

The truth be known, we are in Iraq now because of Iran IMO. We are selling arms, because of Iran.

Also, you have to ask yourself, why did 911 happen in the first place. My answers:

1 - People hate us. They hate our way of life, they don't respect our freedoms, how we treat women, and they want us all dead.

2 - Our foreign policy's are directly responsible for 911 and it all stems from our relationship with Isreal.

3 - We let them do it. We have open borders.

Guys, we have two options....either keep America America, or allow it to turn into a Muslim state. The Muslims have declared war on this country. The good news for us is that all the Muslin countries don't get along because of a little black liquid called oil....and oil equals power.

good point and i agree...i always thought it was more about iran in the big picture...the soldier in me recognizes the clear strategy...lets stop thinking about 9-11 and some silly wmd u.n bs and look at the simple truth of our actions by looking at a map...look at the what the "hunt for bin laden" has gotten us :

we are now in control or working towards being in control of a perfect ring around the true enemy here...

i never agreed with us being the worlds police and iraq just wasnt a tactical threat to US...it makes a great springboard sure...but i'm not comfortable with us being the israeli's attack dog...besides...why pretend the UN holds so much weight?

we needed a place to base operations. Iraq had all the things we needed.. a mistreated populace, chronic poverty, a president with a price on his head, and a location smack dab in the middle of the enemy's heartland (geographically speaking).

We thought, hey we'll topple this guy install some goons of our own choosing, and be in friendly territory from which we can launch 20 years of assaults into countries that are too afraid of us to ask us to stop, or stupid enough to goad us into really fukking them up.

Of the 3 appearant goals, only 1 was a total failure. We're still launching attacks on countries we're not at war with. They're still stupidly lead and filled with cowards and winers.

Our relationship with Israel is only giving the sand worshipers a rallying cry that they can put a local face on. I say we give them Israel and take Kuwait, UAE, and South Eastern Iraq give that to the jews to call home and see how they like them apples.

good points! I think it's funny that if any of the current presidential candidates made any of the above points they'd be thrown out of the race, but in fact they are true.
