why do you say that? Just because I memorized every episode of every Star Trek series except for "Enterprise" (Enterprise I didn't even watch half the episodes... gawd that show sucked the life out of ST).

Don't even get me started on the total lack of crappers in the schematics for the various Star Trek ships and space stations. I guess we've evolved away from crapping in the 23rd and 24th centuries.

chip... you wound me. Star Trek is the inspiration and reason for development for many of the technologies that we take for granted today (cell phones, reusable spacecraft, portable computers, voice recognition, ion drive, etc...). The show and most of the story lines are a direct reflection of the sociologic and political climate of the decades since the original series took flight. It has been responsible for social and political attitude changes that affect everything from race and religion to sexuality.

It may be campy but it's a truly creative and fun series, except for Enterprise which was nothing but a money funnel for the producers that came along after Gene Roddenberry died.

Still, you're entitled to your outcast opinion... hehe.

I got my HPS intake coming. Can't wait. First things first, I'm going to build a kit for nitrous guys that hides most everything inside the manifold plenum. The kit will be licensed exclusively to HPS so you'll all be able to buy your manifold with the up-option of a built in nitrous system pretty soon.

You're welcome.

I don't want to have to worry about filling the bottle and everything. It does give you great gains for the money.

Do what the ricers do: stick a NOS sticker your car. It adds 50 hp and you never have to refill anything.

Default 5.4L 2V SOHC Supercharged Lightning Engine

I'm sure this has been answered before, but there is a lot of posts to read through. Would swapping with a 5.4L 2V SOHC Supercharged engine from a Lightning be a good swap choice? I heard it has forged internals. Would that be the same ease of swap like others are doing with the standard 5.4L 2V SOHC engines? I know obviously the intake would have to be modified / changed, but would everything else bolt up? Would it be worth it to get one of those engines complete with supercharger, computer and wiring harness, etc - ready for changeover for $3-4k ? Sorry, if i'm being redundant. Also if anyone has pics and instructions on successful swaps, please provide links, thanks!

the lightning motor is exactly what most of us are creating; that is all those that are staying 2V. They're a good but not fantastic bottom end but, paying 3K for one with a blower you can't really use (just too tall...6" cowls aren't a good solution) seems kinda wasteful. For the same 3K you can build one that'll handle oodles more power and it'll be brand new. If you can score one and you're happy with the cost, slap that bad boy in with a mustang intake or a KB blower system on a set of adapter plates and you're good to go.

I just got a delivery from fedex... on saturday no less

With my plates
it should be pretty killer, till the 5.4 intake is ready then I'll put that on.

I was just looking at that HPS Cast Aluminum intake manifold on their website, looks nice. Sorta pricey though. Too bad they don't make a custom 5.4 intake so we wouldn't need the adapter plates. So hrmm, yeah I didn't think about clearance issues with the blower from the lightning. I guess it'll be smarter to get a standard 2V, for under a grand, build it up, and then install it and not have to worry about ripping it apart later. Heh, I wish there was a complete changeover kit for us that I could just buy and install. It's so tough trying to make a decision on weather to stick with the 4.6 and build her or go with a beasty engine. And as much as I would love to have the DOHC 5.4 out of the Ford GT, I don't see myself winning the lottery any time soon.

HPS is diligently working on the design of the 5.4L specific intake. I'm pretty sure they'll have a prototype unit ready in the next 12 months. The adapter plates are really more for guys that will need them...ie, those that are ready now to slap their 5.4 in. By the time most people are ready to do their swap HPS will have a 5.4 intake that just fits and fits under a stock hood.

There's no substitute for cubic inches. If you're eventually gunna stuff a blower on it, a 5.4 will make gobs more power than a similarly built 4.6. There's just more room for more air and fuel and not a lot of getting past that. Don't forget that the 5.4 is currently a torque motor as we're all setting it up. It makes SICK tq at satanically low RPMs and it'll blow the tires loose in 3rd gear. HP is fine and dandy but it's directly related to how much fuel you burn. If you can turn up the tq without an associated gain in HP then you're burning the same gas as a NA 4.6 (ish) but making the times that you would with a blown 4.6 and that's really where the metal meets the meat.

yeah... it took me a while to put it down. I test fitted my adapter plates with it and the RR plates are definitely going to need some whittlin' on to get all the ports to match.

I've already started gathering components and taking measurements to do the nitrous system inside it. It looks like I'm going to have to change from a built in spray bar design to a more involved method but at least I'll get a chance to make my own nozzle design a reality.

It's not too hard. You'll need a plumb bob and a pal or two and a measuring tape.

Check the instructions on the MM website for their K-member. It has a nice squaring procedure that's relatively easy.

Oh man, so not cool, I was going to do that, you stole my idea...... kidding. But I do think its a great idea to get this in a mag for all to see and get people more interested so we can start getting more parts fabricated. I'm sure it will come in handy for those of us who aren't insanely knowledgeable about everything. ::cough:: (r3dn3ck) ::cough::

Was in a magzine, 5.0 mag back in late 2004. it was in 3 mags, and i have them, and i've read them a million times before my swap was done. But a refresher would be sweet.

Oh sweet, i try to check out the Mustang mags whenever I get a chance, must have missed it, if you got em, can you perhaps, scan the relevant pages and supply them for download? If so, that'd rock. I know everyone says they read the articles, but I really just like the pictures...... drool!
