pics below. Excuse the haze... the sun was backing the shot and all I had was my camera phone. The headers fit ok but they're extremely tight fitting. We've already had to clearance the bell-housing (1 rib), beat the floor in a bit and beat the passenger side motor mount a little. Nothing big but they're not a pure bolt-in.
intake with new coolant crossover setup.
close up of the coolant crossover fittings. LMK if you need a parts list.
a little view of the intake runner exits
headers from under and behind facing forward. Yes they're VERY tight fitting.
passenger side header.

Well Ford was nice enough to do alot of mix and matching for the '99 year. The engine I rebuilt, the 5.4 out of my dad's F150, had PI heads and a forged crank. It has that cast, 2 piece intake on it also. Supposedly they used both NPI and PI heads that year so it could be either one. Maybe we should ask Randy.

Everything is looking f'in sweet on that buildup. I'm patiently waiting on the dyno results. Looking at those headers has really inspired me to start on a set of my own. Although for the power and flow numbers of these engines, I will be sticking with 1 5/8" primaries. That should free up some room under there for all those tubes. What thickness header flange did you use? What was the final length of the primaries?
While doing some research I came across this website that calculates optimum primary size/length based on some engine parameters. Plugging in 330 ci, 5500 RPM, and exhaut valve opening at 56 Deg BTDC (Spec for Comp XE270) It spit out the following:
Your Primary Tube Length is 43.98
Your Primary Tube Diameter is 1.52 inches
Your Collector Length is 21.99 inches
Your Collector Diameter is 2.88 inches
With those numbers in mind, I will use 1.625" primaries (ID of pipe is ~1.52), 3" collector, and try to hit that 40" length, although I may end up around 30"

Shorter will make more hp up top and these engines aren't lacking low end by any means, so 30" might actually be better....

primaries lengths are roughly equal and look ~36" but I have to take a measurement today to be sure
Primary tube diameter is 1.75"
collector length is unknown but I'll get a measure today
collector diameter is 3"
I hit the site and put in 6000 rpm
Your Primary Tube Length is 40.07
Your Primary Tube Diameter is 1.60 inches
Your Collector Length is 20.03 inches
Your Collector Diameter is 3.03 inches .
Looks like they're about good by the numbers. I'll have more exact measures later.
I'm not worried about low/mid power. I really need the top end to open up. Dyno run is tentatively scheduled for monday. That requires my new header flanges to be here though.
Joey, I spaced the tracking number yesterday. I'll pop down again today and get it for you. It should be there already. A little irritated I spent that much on shipping to have the parts arrive late.

Thats two piece too so it can be pulled apart to port. I'm just trying to find one thats PI if they exist. I didn't think so but someone I know on F150online.com has one that he claims is PI....

Very limited, but did around the time Ford was switching over to PI.
I have only seen a few on the net and only one in front of me.
Are you trying to get one? What are your ideas?

There are none. You either need to have an existing set for a 4.6 modifield, or have a custom set made up. Either way you are looking at some expensive work. Later this year I plan to make up a set of my own. I have experience with welding and exhaust fabrication though.

i know there is a shop locally that said he could make them out of high quality stainless for approx 1000, he said he wouldn't make them out of mild steel...he doesn't believe in making cheap junk

does anyone have adapter plates for sale or have dimensions so i can have some fabricated (i know a guy =inexpensive). i found a complete motor from a 03 with 80k miles for $250 and tax refunds are in the bank
#6238
pm jscottgt, i believe he still has some adapter plates for sale.
I finally got mine running and driving; it doesnt idle too well, slight lope, and when i press the clutch in to shift while driving the rpms will rise some then fall. not sure if its a vaccuum leak or intake leak or maybe the fact that im using a 5.4 pi engine on a 4.6 nonpi tune.
