+1!

I bet it could be fabbed to fit. If you have the money anything is possible.

They make 385 series swap kits. It's sad to think that a 4v 281 is the same size and that a 330 is bigger. The 385 series is only bigger in length and cubes.

You can get a 6.2L stroked 5.4 from Paschal Performance if you've got 10k for a shortblock....

I'm sure it could fit, especially in the Vic that I want. I'd prefer an OHC engine though, which is why I wish they made a newer version of the 460. Plus I don't know how difficult it would be to make that engine work with the ECU and the current trans.

it wouldn't

you would have to swap in a pushrod computer from like a 94-95 or a fox

The stock computer would work. An 8 cylinder is an 8 cylinder. Both need to use the same amount of sensors, the difference being the 460 is not made for COP but can be made to run EDIS. The only problem that I can see running into is w/ the crank position sensor and the trigger wheel, since it may not have the right amount of teeth. However, this can be easily solved by getting a Steeda/BBK timing kit and attaching it to your balancer (Hot Rod did this when they ran a 4.6 computer on a 5.7 Hemi). Then of course, you need tuning to since you are making a 179ci jump.

And it can fit in the Vic. Remember, back in the day, the 460 was an option. However, if you want big and OHC, wait until Ford releases the Boss engine family. Those engines have 6.2L (can be taken to above 7.0L) and come in 2V or 4V versions.

For what price though? The cool thing about 460's is that they can be found for cheap. Yesterday I found a 460 with trans (which was huge) for $300. It would obviously need to be rebuilt, but you get the point. Even the rebuilt shortblock that I posted above wasn't too bad, at around $900.

And don't forget that the parts are cheap and plentiful. However, let's not get to OT since this is about a 330 Mod swap.

I'm thinking of picking up one of these with my tax return $$. Has anyone posted before & after dyno plots with the HPS vs. Stock PI & adapter plates. I tried doing a search but didnt come up with anything useful.

Plans for the spring:
HPS hardball'r 5.4
BBK 78mm TB/elbow
FRPP shorties

haha yeah mine hit too and i had to reach up through the spindle and undo the bolt and pull it off. and the let the engine down. the shaft will sit above the manifold.

Normally that would be the route I would go in, but I've already got the shorties as partial payment from some work I did for a friend on his car. I agree the LT's are the better solution, but I am not about to drop $1500+ for a set. That money can be better spent elsewhere. I already have an aftermarket X-pipe. It started off as an O/R piece, and I added 2 high-flow cats to it.

Nobody else has chimed in yet though... how about those results after using the HPS intake??

Still not worth the effort to put them in, lots of work for little or no gain, but your call of course. I wouldn't put them on unless the motor was out, otherwise just sell for cash towards something else.

On the intake, I haven't seen back to back results from anywhere. I was going to test it on my truck for Bob but the deal never worked out, so I'm still waiting too....

What effort? You throw them on before the engine is installed in the car. However, FRPP shorties aren't worth it since they are nothing more than manifolds made w/ tubing. I believe way back BBK shorties were tried and those didn't fit but not one has said anything about JBA.

My engine in torqued down on the mounts, the header sits right above the shaft just grazing it as I turn the wheel.

Did you disconnect the column when you installed? You should not have a problem with shorties hitting the column on install unless it wasnt disconnected. You also shouldnt have a problem with the shorties hitting the column at all once in. Though, you might have to dent the header alittle if it continues to rub. Just make a small/decent sized indention where its hitting and it will fit you problem. It wont affect airflow much either, since they are shorties and all.

With the column disconnected, what will that do? the exhaust is sitting on top of the shaft just barely. There isnt that much room for the motor to lower to go over the top of the exhaust. I would have to make up 2 inches down to make the shaft go over the exhaust

Seeing as I aquired a set of FRPP shorties as partial payment for some work I did for a friend, I am not out any money. I figure I might as well throw them in while I have it all apart to do the intake swap. It may not be worth much power, but every little bit helps. I dont plan to step up to the LT's any time soon as they are way out of my budget for now.

Now that I have decided to go with the HPS intake, I have a set of intake adapter plates available if someone wanted them. Send me a PM with an offer if interested.

since r3d is waiting on his car to be done and we dyno'd hunters but his car never had adapters so no results from those. mine is the never ending project so we'll see numbers one day.

on a side note, a shop here in birmingham is whipping up a couple adapters for the lightning lower/cobra upper for me. anyone interested pm me. the HPS is a far better choice but this might be cheaper and flo better then adapters.

The guy I was replying to has a running 5.4 Mustang, so it seemed logical to assume the engine was in the car.....

"not out any money" is not the same as "can be sold for cash"....

srwhouston, loosen the motor mount nuts and use a jack under one side of the motor (block of wood to the oil pan rail is a good spot) to rotate the motor in the mounts a little bit. You may need to tighten the other side before letting the jack down.

Got a question that I should know the answer to....but don't and can't find it anywhere with searches... Will 3v heads bolt on a 2v shortblock assuming you don't care about the VCT? If so would you need all the 3v chains and guides or did they keep the sprocket size the same?
