myillwillinc is that a 4v N/A cobra upper on a HPS 2v lower? How did you get that done and much did it cost. Needless to say That looks bad ***

There's no such thing as an HPS lower intake, its a 1 piece casting. That looks to me like a Lightning lower with an adapter for the Cobra upper.

Huh? I thought the HPS intake was cast in two pieces to allow for custom porting..

Default HPS inake

The HPS has a removable bottom but is a one-piece design.

I see what you're saying. Maybe we could look at it like this:

5.4 and destroker crank: cost of 5.4 + $1,000

4.6 FRPP 3.70 bore (5.0) cast iron block: cost = $2,000 for the block alone

4.6 FRPP 3.70 bore (FR500C 5.0 block) aluminum block: cost = $4,000 for the block alone

QUESTION---> How much do you want to spend and where's the happy middle ... (???)

You are correct, I was thinking of the topside not being removable, but the pic horspla2000 posted shows its functionaly a 1-piece design when on the motor.

Hmmm.. What would I end up with if I bored it out to 5.6, then installed that destroker crank?

it's not. i must have quoted the wrong one. it's a lightning lower with a billet adapter to a cobra upper. plus a single blade tb should give me the air flow to make the engine happy with boost...

I've thought of that myself in the past, but I hope you plan on turning a lot of rpm to make up for the tradeoff in lost low/mid range torque... I think you'd need to be shifting around 6800-7000 to go faster with that intake.

Sorry to hear that R3d. Best of luck. Hopefully in the future you can finally finish what you started and have a beast car.

4v 5.4
One hell of a deal for someone in the market. Doesnt really give specs about the shortblock though

Sorry to hear you selling and giving up on your project. Hopefully something will inspire you to stay. You're like the God Father or the 5.4 swap. You have inspired me to do the swap. My only hold up is I have a Bullitt to build first, but a 5.4 FI project will be next on the bucket list.

Default 24# injectors in a 5.4

I got some 24# injectors to put in when I am finally able to put my engine in. Is the MAF calibration for these done with a custom tune?? Will it be ok to run without a tune while I am working the bugs out etc.?? Has anybody else done this?? I figured I better step up the injectors bec. I have ported heads, comp cams 270's, HPS intake, 75mm throttle body, C&L plenum, shorty headers, off road x-pipe and flowmasters. I didn't think leaving the 19's for this job would be a good idea.

The hairdryer's don't matter, the runner length needs to match the intended rpm range of the motor or you'll make less average power. The turbos will spool slower than with a longer runnered intake, and being as the main beauty of a turbo combo is that you can make a massive torque curve and go real fast without having to pull high rpm (much more reliable combo), so unless you are building and camming for a 4500-7000 rpm powerband I think you'd have a much faster car with an HPS intake over that setup. I know its a little late since you've got it, but something to keep in mind....

i have stage 3 comp cams and i wanted the turbos to spool alittle slower so i can get moving before the onslaught of boost. i may be wrong but i think this might do it.

I would rather adjust launch rpm or use throttle modulation to get moving vs giving up power in every gear to soften the launch. That big of a cam would still delay the onset of boost even with an HPS intake.

ok ok.. i've skimmed through the SHM book, and i need more explination on overhead cam geometry and performance associated... can someone recommend a book? I've talked to some custom cam grinders and one told me that my cams must be indexed wrong to be having the problems i'm having...

true, but i'm alittle to far into it for going back to the HPS. I sold mine on here to help get another 5.4 on the road and this was the right price. i'll do my best with it and if it looks like it's killing me, i'll go back to the HPS.

It won't run poorly or anything, it'll just make less torque until I'd say 5k+ rpm is where the two curves would cross over.
