I don't think Vics have ever come with 3v engines, though I could be wrong. IIRC, 05's still have 250hp. If they had made a switch to 3v heads, I would expect them to make more power.

Yeah I guess you're right, since apparently they're no longer offering them to the public, just fleet and the police.

Vics are still 2V, and probably use the older style block.

you'll need a tune for sure if you change displacement as much as there is between a 4.6 and a 5.4. An 03 expedition would be a great donor though.

true that... putting the 4.6 into a truck is probably not the best route as it substantially complicates things (mostly on the downgrade to the truck... what a PITA)

Don't know of any CV model that came with a 3v.

I use one. It's a bit of a bitch to get used to since the inertia is so much lower than a iron flywheel but once you get it it's not hard to live with. I have a brand new replacement friction disk for Fidanza flywheels with replaceable centers. I'll let you have it for 15% under whatever Summit charges. Mine was in good shape so I didn't replace it.

Whatever exhaust you're using, plug the EGR port on the manifold BEFORE you put it in the car, its not fun once its all in there.

Not really, I picked up some ARP bolts for the flywheel, but if you're gonna buy pressure plate bolts, make sure you get the right size. I got a dual-pattern 10.5" and 11" flywheel and I think it had 3 different size holes in it, so I ended up with the wrong ones.

Alright.. I feel like an idiot. Karkraft has lightly used 5.4 blocks for $275, but they list them as non-NVH. What does that mean?

NVH block have more material in them so the consumer hears less engine noise. I've heard that there were no strength differences between non-NVH and NVH. Also I believe non-NVH engines didn't have forged cranks from ford. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

NVH was the 02-end of 2V block. When the 3V heads came out, I'm pretty sure they changed the block as well. Non-NVH was the original 5.4 block casting (I believe?) and was from 97-01. Both should work fine.

What did you use to plug the EGR port on the manifold?

I noticed an EGR block off plate/plug listed on Karkrafts site for $30, but they said it only fits 4.6's.

LOL. I cannot believe how large the intake manifold is on a Navigator.

I cut the EGR tube off and welded up the nut and just put it back on there, some guys have just crimped the tube.

Most of us are kinda using 4.6 intakes and exhaust right now

I'm working on one too and I just can't understand why they built it that way.

The Aussie division of Ford makes a simpler, higher performance 5.4L intake that's a lot more manageable size wise. I honestly don't understand why Ford isn't using it on the Navigator. Surely any added expense is negated by the increased power?

I don't think the Aussie intake has anywhere near the intake port length of the navigator intake.

Isn't that Boss 290 intake in the neighborhood of $2500? I'm surprised an aftermarket company hasn't taken to reproducing them. If they made one for a 3v engine, I'd be all over it (especially since it has the throttle on the drivers side, just like a P71.)

Birdman sells them complete (upper and lower) as part of a swap kit for $2500.

KarKraft has 4v adapter plates which are considerable better than 2v plates as there's no sideways jog, wonder how the port size in an Aviator intake compares to the Navi heads? I would assume its much smaller, but there should be some room for porting...

Your car is on a border year and you'll need to identify if you have a t45 or a tr3650 tranny. If it's the latter the drain plug for the tranny will face the ground. If it's a t45 it'll face the side. 3650 definitely has a 11" clutch and will need a 8 bolt flywheel for 11" clutch. An 01 cobra flywheel is appropriate. I converted from 11" to 10.5" by simply installing 10.5" clutch disc, pressure plate, flywheel. If you have a t45 then you should probably have a 10.5" clutch and you may or may not have an 8 bolt flywheel... kinda random around early 01' from what I recall of mine.

you need to use the 4.6 pan. just push the oil baffles down about 1/2 inch so the crank doesn't hit them.
