Default Oil pressure guage

This morning I went to turn my car on, started up fine, then the oil pressure gueage went all the way down and stayed there for about 3 minutes, i checked the oil it was fine, then after 3 minutes it started moving up and down pretty fast, then after about 5 minutes it went back to normal and has been ever since- I checked for trouble codes on my SCT and there were none- Im guessing this is just a one time thing. Has anyone ever had this problem what do you think?

And since i have a 2000 i am able to access the HEC Instrument Cluster Diagnostics (http://mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/dtcodes.htm) i did that and got a trouble code of 5284 which means oil pressure switch failure

replace it... It's a brass colored sensor about 1.5" tall and an inch wide right by your oil filter. It's a screw in affair and stupidly simple. Use some teflon tape on the threads of the new one and don't overtighten. It uses NPT threads so good-n-snug plus a 1/4 turn is fine.

20 bucks is the fordparts.com price. You should be able to match that at kragen/checker/schucks

yes you need to replace it now. No it won't hurt your car just being broken but it will prevent you from knowing if you get an actual oil pressure problem which will be fatal for your engine in seconds.

it'll take 1 wrench and about 3 minutes to swap it.

Oil pressure sending unit switch. They make special sockets for them also, ask the parts rep it they rent it or sell them. It's a simple job if done correctly.
