Default Oil Pressure Gauge?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

i have recently bought a used 1996 Mustang GT. the previous owner took out the clock and added a 2 pod dome. it had endine temp and oil pressure. he hooked up the engine temp and partly hooked up the oil pressure one. the ground and ignition wires were hooked up but not the oil sender. i unhooked everything. i then whent to the cluster harness, i cut the 3 wires from the harness and hooked them to the aftermarket gauge. i turned the car on and it shot right to 100 psi and wont move. the new gauge is an electronic gauge. what am i doing wrong? please help me i am getting very frusterated.

you wired somethinf wrong, more then likly the wire fo rht epressur sending unit is connected to a 12v source. So the guage is get a full 12v rather then the variable voltage the sneding unit sends out. aka go back you wired it wrong.

yeah, the oil press gauge should have it's own sender thst hooks up independently. One hot wire for lights, one ground wire and one wire (or nylon hose) to the motor for oil presure. It sounded like you hooked up the stock sender to the aftermarket gauge, more than likely they operate off of different voltage ranges and won't cooperate.

Yes it's hooked up wrong. The sending unit for the stock gauge and the sending unit for the aftermarket gauge reads the pressure totally different. That's why they come with a special sending unit. You take the stock sending unit off and screw the new one in. Until then, it won't read correctly.
They both read different PSI, i belive that's why autometer stated.
