Exactly!

They knew before the season what kind of a layoff they would have if they were to make it too the Championship game.Hmmmmmmm maybe change your schedule and not play all your games early in the season.

They just can't change their schedule.....College teams don't schedule games on a year to year basis, they do it in blocks of 3 or 4 years, but they should think about that the next block of scheduling they do.

I wasn't be any means using the 50 days off as an excuse for Ohio State....I was simply saying that 50 days between games is way too long and college footbal needs to change it.

Anyway, Ohio St. wasn't in "game" shape and it showed. That's the fault of the coaching staff, and they got destroyed.

exactly the big ten has traditionally always ended early but that was because of huge snow storms and no way to clear the fields and roads quickly and then they would have 2 cancel games.......this has lead 2 many big ten teams losing bowls games from being out of playing shape, no matter how hard you practice its never as hard as you go in a game.....these days they can clear a field and roads in a very short time..........its time for a change with there schedule

All i'm hearing is excuses. How bout this one. Troy Smith and his team ate one too many Cheeseburgers and thats why they lost. And not being in "game" shape isnt a excuse either for those on sports teams coaches always tell you to practice hard if you dont your just cheating yourself.

Dude, I agree and I'm not making excuses for them, I'm not a fan of Ohio State.....all I'm saying is that no-matter how much or how hard you practice it's still different than playing a real game. When you practice against the same kids for 50 days you learn their weaknesses and speed so you get in a rut, but if your playing a real game every week you see different things and it makes you better.

Not sure if this is a good comparison, but I played college baseball and if all we did for 50 days was take batting practice with straight 70mph fastballs thrown by the coaches we'd be in serious trouble at game time because it's totally different. That's one of the reasons why MLB has spring training, one of the reasons why the NBA & NFL has pre-season. Of course those games are to also eveluate talent, but it's also to get in game shape. So That's what I mean by "game shape", not that they didn't run enough sprints or had too many burgers.

Anyway, I'm not making excuses for any team. I'm arguing against the NCAA having a 50 day period before games.

So basically what we are all saying is we need a playoff of the top 8 teams.

I don't know if that's the answer, but something needs to be done about having 50 days off before a game. I think the NFL has two weeks or so between playoffs and super bowl....that's just right.
