Default Transmission problems! AGAIN!

This is the SECOND transmission in this car, I had to replace it at 22k Miles, and now that it's got 30k on the ticker, I don't want to have to replace it again. First, Second, Fourth, And Fifth are fine. But, whenever I shift into 3rd with any RPMS above 3000, I can't shift without a grind, and then every time thereafter it grinds into third. THIS IS THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM I HAD WITH THE FIRST TRANSMISSION! If i wait about 5 minutes, it'll be fine and I'll have smooth shifts again. Does anyone know what's causing this? And why is this specific to the third gear? Btw, I have the t-3650 ('04 GT)... I think. Correct me if I'm wrong, as I don't know much about my car and I've only owned it for 12k miles.

You have the classic sign of the 3650 mains problem. When cold it grinds (mostly third and 2nd gear) because it has copper or brass syncros. There is a TSB out that deal does with this, where they rebuild it with different parts and it wont do this anymore. It should of been done on your 2nd tranny, but something tells me it wasn't as thats classic signs of the problem.

Thanks alot guys. I was thinking it was the synchronizers, because when I shifted yesterday at about 2k rpm, it started doing it again. I'll definitely call em up after I get out of school today. It's just sad that It just went out of warranty. Were they supposed to rebuild it, or would I have had to ask for it? Because I want to know whether I can argue that fact when I send it in to get work done, as I don't really want to pay for this again.

What's your advice on what to do? 3rd party? or a dealership? And most importantly, if I can't get it done under warranty... How much is this gonna cost me?

If you want the TSB done on your trans, you probably need to go to Ford. Personally, I'd rather buy a used TR3650 w/ the TSB already done to it or a used TKO since it's probably cheaper than to get the TSB done considering labor charges.

Yea, I'll call em about it and ask prices about having it done. In the meantime, I'll search the internet... :\

With warranty its free of charge, but they wont do it unless you ask because its not a recall its just a TSB (technical service bulletin). Without warranty i heard around $1200 to have it done, so its not worth it on a stock tranny unless you can get them to warranty the work they should of done before. You need to let them know you know about the TSB for the 3650 and want to know why it wasnt done to your tranny before when it was rebuilt.
