So, earlier today my car started having some problems. I think it's the transmission, but I'm really not sure. Anyway, the car shifts fine and acts completely normal (which throws me for a loop, cause I would think this wouldn't be the case). What happens is when I get to 4th gear, if i push the peddle about halfway down the car stutters. It tries to go forward and then it's like the clutch engages and there's no power to the wheels, then it tries to go forward and then the power cuts out over and over again really fast. ****, this is just what I need to deal with during finals week.

 

I don't have any ideas as to what could be causing this. I just wanted to reply to bump up your thread because I replied to mine and I wanted someone to see this.

 

is it an automatic?

sounds to me like the OD band is shot. you probably need a rebuild.

Some sort of overdrive problem, or converter lockup problem.

 

Yeah, I'm hoping the whole transmission doesn't need rebuilt. Either way, I dropped the car off at my dad's house and took his suv. He's gonna drive it to work tomorrow cause he works right across the street from an auto shop that he always goes to. He's going to have them take a look at it and just diagnose it. I'll figure out what I'm doing from there.
