My car is having a small clack noise when i let off the clutch in 1st-3rd gear. Can anyone help me with this and tell me what the problem might be? I bought the car recently is an 02 Mustang GT.

 

Does it sound like it's coming from the front or back? Any smells? Leaks of any sort? If yes, where? And can you describe that sound any better?

 

No there's no leaks or smell, when i put the car in gear and i lift up the clutch it bangs under the car and i believe it comes from the transmission, the car goes thrugh all the gears perfect but when i down shift it also bangs, i bought this car recently is an 02 GT with 50k. I've been driving manual transmission for 4 years and ive never had this problem. Should i do a manual transmission fluid change?

 

It's kinda hard to diagnose a noise over the internet so, unless you want to pay someone, try to check it yourself. I'd start checking stuff like the U-joints, the transmission mount, or any loose bolts.

 

Does the clutch engage smoothly or does it chatter alot?

Reason I ask is that mine will make a bang like noise if I do not slip it in 1st because I have an aftermarket clutch that is much grabbier then the stock setup and can't just be let out quickly like an OEM organic clutch can.

 

Yea it chatters a lot i have an 02 GT as well.

 

Are you the original owner and is it the stock clutch?
