Ive got a 5.4L block bored .020 over out of a 2000 f150 that i had built, got rid of the car and am now selling. it has the forged crank from lightning, forged manley H-beams, forged probe pistons. The block has been machined and is also balanced.

Cool supercharger?

Hey guys I have been reading this thread for quite a while now and I am about 2/3 of the way through it....lol...lots of reading. I picked up a 5.4L from an 01 f150 and I dropped it off at a machine shop to hot tank it and inspect it before I start. Well my 1st question is there a way to know if i have a forged crank or cast? My 2nd well I have come across a supercharger and I have no idea what brand it is and I am still deciding if I want to use it. The guy I got it from said that it was never ran and that it was taken off of a cobra. Dont remember if he said about a year or not . Well guys any info you have to help me would be greatly appreciated.

The crank should be cast, they stopped with forged in '98

That looks like a GT500 supercharger

For anyone working on building a new-ish 5.4L, I have a set of -8cc dish pistons from a 1996 cobra for sale. These will bump compression near 10:1 when used with a PI 2V head. They came out of a cobra shortblock, and I do not have a need for them. Send me an email jscottgt@gmail.com if you are interested.

Not true, they were all forged up to 99, then 50/50 up to now, i have a 2003 5.4 with a factory forged crank , check for the thick parting line, if it has it its forged,

thanks guys for the info!! Well just thought i would tell you guys I dropped off my block to get it hot tanked and inspected before i begin. I should be getting it back this week then i get to start putting it together and collecting the rest of the parts I dont have yet/ want to upgrade to better ones. After I get the 5.4 installed and running then I will start looking for ways to get the gt500 supercharger installed.

Hey all! Long time! Just wanted to let you know, mine is drivable now....WAHOO!!!! Took it to a racing event here in Germany, called German Race Wars...I wasn't having a good weekend as I kept short shifting, so my best time was a 14.7 but I was cutting 1.9 60fts on a unprepared track...here is a vid of the last run for the weekend....You can hear where I short shifted, and even my buddy noticed it....

Thanks! I bet I can get my times down lower...Just I haven't driven the car in so long, that I have to relearn it. Clutch and shifter feel much different than my Ram.

I haven't checked in here in a while. My project took the back burner for a while. Got a new job do I should be able to finish in a couple months. I'm thinking about ditching the boss 260 intake and running some kind of roots supercharger. Anyone know how hard it would be on my c heads?

You doing race wars or Bitburg?

Bitburg hooks better. I hit 1.7 60fts at that track with only Nitto DR's and I have 400hp and 400 tq at the time. Trevor also did about the same 60fts but with a 28" Nitto DR.

Give it some practice on a private street...may need to feather the clutch a bit off the line.

She starts right up now! Warms up perfect, revs to 2k strong.
Starting the motor for the first time!

However... lol. We have tried to drive her 2 times now. I can get her out of my neighborhood babying it. Maybe 70 yards driving, take a right, we have a 100 yard straight road with a turn around at the end. As long as I stay under 2k, she feels fine. As soon as I get over that, or over 1/4 throttle, it falls flat on its face. Then sputters, acts like she is flooded, and if I just sit still, it will eventually gain its composure and be rev-able again. If when sputtering, any gas to help it get back to idle, it stalls and is hard to start again.

I checked my IAC today, its pretty new and super clean, so I put it back on. My filter for air may be dirty, it is a K&N cone type filter. I used to put them in the dishwasher, that still viable?

What do you guys think?

Hi, just joined this forum as it seems to be the only one where there is a concentration of 5.4L 2V guys. Seen the birdman 5.4 4V swap which was making something like 400/380 NA. One thing I'm having a hard time finding is a dyno sheet from someone with a pretty built 5.4L 2V. Seems like the 2V swap is much easier and with the new TFS heads... power might be up there with the birdman setup.

What I would like to see is someone with a pump gas (93 octane) 5.4L 2V, something like 11.5:1 compression, .020 over, TFS heads, HPS intake, custom ground cams and all the supporting mods. Anything like this exist or would I be a guinean pig if I started one?

Do you know if ftperformance is still around making longtubes? Seems that their website is pending deletion on godaddy.

Ah, well that will probably not happen but maybe... Don't see alot of ppl doing this swap... I read over at the MHS website that the issue with the 5.4L and TFS heads is that the HPS intake runs out of air way before the TFS heads ever will and that limits the power a 2V 5.4L can make. I also read that TFS and Edelbrock are looking into possibly releasing a 2V 5.4L intake which would be awesome.

Then there is the other issue. The birdman 5.4L DOHC swap kit that comes with headers/modified boss intake etc... is $2500 which is actually less money than TFS heads and HPS intake sooo... that's why I'm looking around at dyno sheets. I think if an aftermarket company releases a 5.4L 2V intake that can flow with the TFS heads this might become a VERY common swap though as it is basically a drop in in place of the 4.6L.... There are always the adapter plates I guess but those are not the greatest thing in the world...

Maybe I should just do what everyone else is doing and swap the MKVIII motor, lose 100lbs off the nose and be done with it...

the hps intake can be ported to hell and back. it has alot of material in and around the posrts and plenum area. or you could go with a lightning lower/custom upper or 96-98 cobra upper with adapter plate like i have. but it would only work on FI engines.

Seems like more options then I thought, will def have to do some more research... do you think a tfs/ported hps 2v is capable of 400/400 or close to that or is that just a pipe dream? That is what the high compression 5.4 4v guys are making.

Ok cool, I'll have to run some more numbers/do some more research. Its between the two 5.4Ls and the Teksid 4.6L which is the econo option and least complicated... also will make great power and drop 100lbs off the nose all of which is great minus having nothing on the 5.4ls as far as torque...

Birdman did quote me a tremendous price for a full drop in forged .020 over 4v with ported C heads and the whole 9 yards including the swap kit. That combo is almost identical to his and he is making 404whp/384tq on 93 octane getting 26mpg... yeah...
