did ya read the whole thing already? There's a lot of tech in the last 280 pages.
And no, I'll drive it and still sell it. I wanna retire early. Spend my remaining years bouncing around the world exploring copper age digs.

damn everyones been busy haha. its been awhile since ive checked in. a little update on my car: gettin taxes back in a week or so gonna buy some fr500s with 315s new nitto dr's. also gonna take get 30# injectors and get it tuned. gonna have a street tune and a n2o tune for a 150 shot of juice. also getting ready to pull my intake again and have it ceramic coated so it will have a chrome finish. was gonna hand polish it myself but got lazy haha.
do you guys think 30's and my stock fuel pump will be enough to support that much nitrous with a tune?

honestly ... no. I don't think that's a good idea myself. Even SVT Focus pumps start running out of steam after 425-450.
The 30's are fine with a wet kit and you'd never do 150 dry but you needum bigger fuel pump. I'm thinking 450rwhp worth of pump + a little to spare so, probably a aviator pump and you'll have a little room.

i never thought of ceramic coating! sounds like a real good idea cause getting things to shine cost major money these days. im in the process of trying to get my lightning blower polished i found this guy and he looks like he does outstanding work mirrorfinishpolishing.com he will even coat it so it doesnt oxidize, but ceramic sounds like a good idea!! im gonna have to check into that
R3d what size pump is the aviator? I might just drop in a 255lph just so I don't have to drop the tank in the future again when I get a blower. Would that be too much pump though for everyday use? And would it drop my mpg even more than it is?
#8467
if anyone is interested, i might fix and rebuild hunters 5.4 and have it up for sale. all forged with fox lake stage 2 ported heads and bigger valves. just tossing the idea out there. or i might sell the pieces off seperatly.

Hello swappers! its been awhile... well a quick update. I sold my heads, cams, and eaton setup. Had to make a few personal adjustsments. So I'm thinking maybe just some trickflows, cams, and hps with some shortys so I can just get it in and running? its simplafies a lot and makes it easier for me to complete. A strong 5.4 2v is really what I wanted to start with. And since I swapped out my nitto dr's and went to a smaller better handling tire its really made the entire cobra suspension swap worth it

Ya its gonna cost me around 80 bucks to have it done. Plus it will keep heat down.

Well I finally got the top end together on my car, still need to clean up some vaccum lines, but more or less done.

Now I just gotta get enough cash together to put a K member in it so I can put the headers on.

Ok so mayybe i was overlooking it. Its snowing out now, but I'll go take a gander at it in a bit.
IIRC thats correct, but the center bolt on the PS bracket/Coil bracket didnt line up near anything on the 5.4 cover.
I dunno i was workin on it late last night so maybe i jsut overlooked it.
Thanks Nater

i have to search for the pics i have but it is a basically stock 5.4 used the adapterplates for the intake untill i finish my supercharger design. Had the engine in two month ago but upon first fire up a ground bolt feel into the intake port and got sucked into the cumbustion chamber and put a hole in my piston so the engine got yanked out one new piston went it. Then my timing was off a little to much(was to anxious and screwed up to many times) and bent the valves. So this weekend i finnished installing my new head and runs great from 1000rpm up but i need to tune it bad. I was on a tight budget so my build was just a stock swap over but have alot of plans to come

Congrats on you finishing the install. Dont feel bad about the mistakes as it has happened (or most likely will happen) to us all.
Your photos ill be instersting. Please keep us informed. Again ... Welcome to the best swap thread going !!!

GOOD JOB ... LOOKS GREAT !!!
SWEEEET ... Those headers and valve covers look good.
You're running a stick, or auto?
Which cams?
Hopefully as soon as I get my garage done this summer I'll be able to get on mine.

Auto Trans Will Work
Please let us know how the auto trans works out. If I do one it will more than likely have an auto trans, at first at least.
For simple cruising I dont see anything wrong with it, plus my left knee is not as good as it was half my life ago.
I dont know of many (if any) on here that has used the auto tans so I'm curious to see how it all works out (exhaust, gears, etc.). THANKS !!!

so it seems to me that the consensus is 4.6 DOHC > 5.4 SOHC? I have a 99GT with a 99 Cobra engine in it now, 4.10s, full bolt ons. But I can pick up an 03 roller local for cheap. Thought about selling mine and building a 5.4. Worth it? Or just hang onto my car?

The top one you can just see the PS res bracket. The cam position sensor is behind the res. The bottom pic is the 5.4 with the res in exactly the same spot.
If you hold your res where it was then you should have holes there. IF NOT, then relocate your battery to the trunk and bolt the res where the battery used to be. You'll need to get a couple generic PS fluid compatible hoses that are a bit longer than those that came on it but it's otherwise a fairly simple relocation. I bumped into that issue a bit with the lightning blower install (specifically the CAI).

Now that the TFS heads have had a chance to strut their stuff I don't think it'll be long before you see the first batch of really streetable 400rwhp NA 5.4 2v cars out there. Apart from that, 2v 5.4 is WAY cheaper than a 4v if you want to start getting into ported or aftermarket heads and cams. They're about on par as far as exhaust bits go but there's a massive aftermarket of 2v 4.6 parts which thanks to HPS you can still use.
I think I'd love a 4v 4.6 car for auto-x. But I'll take my 5.4 2v for any serious racing.
News on the car:
I tinkered around and re-wired the stuff I had in the back seat. I had all the relays and controllers and crap set up on a 18" square plastic sign to figure out all the cascading relays and adjusted all the wire sizes so they can handle the current going through them. It was kinda a huge *** rats nest since I used like 3' extra wire for each wire so the whole master board could be moved around the car. The extra has been removed and everything is in a secksy harness and routed under the carpet. It'll be partially concealed by the rear seat delete kit going back in but I've got to make a few modifications to it to clear the relays and controllers and battery box which are all where the rear seat used to be.
The progressive controller for the methanol kit worked beautifully when I powered up the electrical system and tested it. As I press more throttle it flows more juice. Neato. The IC pump is giving me fits but I think I've got it sussed. Just have to pull off some plumbing and switch em. Either that or it's not getting enough current.
To top it all off, I'm pretty sure the battery popped between cells when I tried to start the car. That's a bad sign. I did however get to the point that I added coolant and went to actually start the ****** up. So there.
BTW... does anyone have some sort of nice 1 gallon-ish tank. Something suitable for methanol so, not aluminum. It has to be either stainless steel or plastic. Somebody's gotta have a good tank. I have to mount it inside the cabin so it needs to be better than the gas can I'm using now.
