Going hunting today. Probably make more progress tomorrow.

Are you going to put some weatherstripping around that hood cutout, or are you planing to leave that bare edge?

Anybody ever try to drop the engine from the bottom, k member and all, with a twin post? nuff clearance? how bout goin the other direction and boltin her back in? Depending on how much of a dent i put into my student loans while still in school i might try to restart (was gathering parts but loss of job/starting school hindered progress, sold most everything on craigslist) my gt conversion/5.4 swap while im still here in school, so i would have available the schools(University of Northwestern Ohio if anybody's curious what school) lift/dyno/tools
Sat on the stoop and watched the traffic go by last week, saw some nice mod motor vehicles(lots of f series pickups, couple mustangs, some crown vics, theres also a lightning and a termie here on campus) and got a warm fuzzy feeling, so i started rereading this mess of a thread again, on page 11 now.

This is a good question. I have always wondered the same thing. I saw a clip once of the Ford SVT Team when they first attempted to put the 5.4 in the late model chasis and they had the car on what looked like a 2-post and installed the engine from the underside. It appeared they shove the whole motor/k-member assembly up there as an entire unit. They got it in without any problems. My impression is the video was shot because it was the first time Ford ever attempted to install the 5.4 in the new chasis.

Reason I question it, was this factory magic that can only be duplicated with tools available at the factory only, or what ... ???

Again; this was on a 2005 model Mustang GT they did this with and not our 99-04 chasis, so I'm wondering if this could be accomplished on our Mustangs ... (???)

Seems to me like it could be. It would be nice to be able to install the motor, headers, and k-member all in one integrated unit. Then again, maybe that's asking for too much ... ???

going to line the edge and seal up the chasms. That'll be the easy part.

The swap is like crack, totally addicting.

It drops out and goes in like butter from the bottom. It's actually a little harder to do from the top.

Here is a car from Mustang Week. Has the lightning setup in it. Was a pretty sweet car. He was getting ready to do a 3.4L or 2.8L on it.

I have a situation hookup-ation for the inspection but that doesn't mean **** if I get stopped and the cop knows what he's looking at.

BTW, ditto on the HOLY-COWL! Dzus fasteners = lift-off hood. The 6" front to back cowl is insane and that it still has to have a hole in it kinda giggles me a bit but it does look neato.

and

CDJ, that intake is pimpin. You putting boost on it right?

I have a set of adapters too. 100 bucks plus 10 for shipping to the lower 48. I have a good set of gaskets to go with and a set of paper gaskets. Also a ported set of 4.6L manifolds that where used when I first did the swap 50 bucks plus shipping.

Well I think I found an engine. Trying to get more info on it. What is a decent price for them. Right now all I know is $450 has no intake. Trying to find out year and miles.

that's a great price for a mostly complete motor as long as it has the front cover and rear main seal cover and the timing set. Those items are pretty costly and the whole point in getting a used motor is to get those at a discount and have at least a mock-up block. If you want to use the block for your engine just be sure it's runnable. Bad bearings can be replaced and cranks polished but if there's a busted rod or piston then just walk away.

Well this is his response and he sent pics trying to decide if its worth it:
"yeah i still got the 5.4 but it is a pi motor it come out a 2000 f150 im not use of the mileage but i did take the top end apart to see the bore and u can still see factory hone marks
but i would say u getting a great deal for 450 bucks to say these motors in good shape are like 1500 dollars"

I'd say it's worth $450. If you aren't gonna use the heads, you can readily get $240-250 for them on eBay. I got $40 for a set of those 19# injectors. Keep that in mind as that can help offset the cost of the eng is you can sell parts you don't need off of it.

tj at FTP asked me today if i wanted to do forward facing longtubes for twin turbo mountingwhere the fog lights used to go. what do you guys think? if i do that i'll have alot less piping, but then i'll have to worry about the air getting to hot. but remote mount means oil lines and pump and alot more piping to return the air back to the front.....

I like it. Since you're removing the fog lights all the together, you can just install something in its place to help direct air towards the turbo to help cool it and feed air into the compressor side.

Lightning guys, need some double checking on vacuum layout
1. The boost bypass actuator has 2 nipples, an upper and a lower. Can someone please confirm which is reference vacuum (never in boost) and which one sees vacuum and boost.

2. There are 3 nipples all clustered around the IAC valve. One is directly on the valve, one is behind it and one is in front of it pointing forward. I need confirmation on which is the breather inlet, which is the actual IAC inlet. I'm pretty sure the rear one will do just fine for PCV.
