ya but i dont think i could get as much trying to sell it as a whole... i can probably sell everything but the hood, and the block fairly easily... ill just have to take a little bit less on it... i mean i think realisticly i could sell the heads for at least 2G's since they are 3000$ heads, and hopefully get around 1,000$ for the rotating assembly... then get another 1,000$ in misc. stuff... and 500$ for the tank... that would put me at about 5500$, and then sell the shell of the car and everything with it for about 2G's ... so 7500$ ... if in the end i came out with 7500$ i think i would be happy... if i managed to get 10G's total for EVERYTHING... id be happy ...

Take the coil packs off the 5.4l and insert the plug wire!

OK........so I drive the car after 2.5 years since the project began and all was fine. I even let the car idle for 20 minutes before the maiden voyage. ALL is well!
I drive up the road and it stalls and sputters, it bucks like a wild hony / pony. DANG! What did I do. OH YEA! The gas is old. Not to mention, I never touched the New plugs that where in it........wet with antifreeze. Damn-it I should have known better. So I changed the plugs, cleaned out anitfreeze/water in plug holes, and cleaned the plug wires.
It ran better, but still hit and missed.........so.......after a bottle of Stable and 2 bottles of octane boost, it smothed out.

23 hours and no activity! What gives?

Alright.....the car is running ALOT smoother and the tank is near empty. Time for some fresh go go juice and a little tweeking.

Question ?
What did your car run like without the tune? How was it compared to the stock 4.6l?
Mine feels good at WOT, but below 2500rpm's it's dead.
I know it needs to be tuned for all the right reasons, but just wondering how well others ran.
I am able to adjust the fuel with a MAFtuner by Pro-M

Mine is alittle weak at low rpm's but I kinda contribute that to big cams and 3.27's

Great deal on a L engine. I can help get it to you. It's right near where I work so if you want to work a deal I would be willing to go and inspect the engine for you and make sure it's at least in visually good shape.

Mine ran very very poorly without a tune. Wouldn't stay running, was gutless at low rpm, sputtered at high rpm and was way way way slower than it needed to be. With a tune, damn... a whole new car. Even untuned though it was stronger than the 4.6.

I found timing and fuel were both in need of big adjustment. Resetting the adaptives would probably really help you too... if your battery hasn't been disconnected since the last drive you should disconnect it for 10-30 minutes to clear them and let the ECU re-learn. It'll run a little poorly for a while as it learns but even untuned it may do better after such a procedure. My cams were largely responsible for the stalling and such. Adapter plates made fueling a little tougher.

Wow! That's impressive. What is your combo? I'd like to get my car down to Milan sometime soon so see what it can do. Although I'd be launching on an IRS and street tires, so I'd expect about the same 60' times.

Spun alot through 1st gear and half of second. My car is a '02 GT convertible with a 5.4 2v from an '02 F150. Have patriot stage 2 heads and the stage 2 comp cams running reichard adapter plates with the stock pi intake and stock exhaust manifolds with an x-pipe.

One of the other runs was against a stage 2 cobalt ss ( pulley and fuel upgrade i think?) and the guy came up to me and said "what gives 110 trap speeds and I didn't hear a blower?" I told him 5.4 swap but I should have said it was a bolt on 4.6.. Lol

hey guys got my 5.4 to start today but when putting it in broke the oil filter adapter where the oil press sensor plugs in so its at welding shop but started to prime the oil pump ran for about 3 seconds im happy lol atleast it starts. what im wondering is what belt are you guys running for a drive belt my 4.6l belt leaves no slack in the 5.4l belt tensioner its sprung fully so do you just find a belt 1 or 2 inches longer or what?? im not sure i like that the tensioner is all out with no play if the belt winds any tighter.

anyways open manifolds car sounds like a damn beast lol cant wait to see the sound change when i cut the H pipe and set one side up at a time then weld in whatever i need on the H compared to the 4.6

worked 6pm yesterday till 6am this morning and now its noon and gota work again tonight and all the next nights for next couple weeks so barely get time to work on car cause im usualy to damn tired but today i found the umph to put the whole top end on new 24lb injects and matching maf and all the accessories now im gona drop dead later everyone.

trap speed like that is good for 12.3's if you can stick the launch. Now then, that's pretty pimp though pulling the kind of power you need for 12.3's on motor.

Guys... I'm selling my nitrous kit. I have to buy a bunch more stuff and I've been asked by my tuner to abandon the giggle juice. I'll give it to any of you guys for the cost I paid but I'll include some extra goodies, like a 2nd nozzle. BOttle will be expensive to ship so I might keep it. Shipping will be split between me and the buyer. IIRC it's 325ish.

I didn't get video of that run but I do have some from another pass on the same day. I think it was a 13.3 @109 pass, I'll have to go back through it and look.
I let a chick I work with use my video camera and half the time she wasn't paying attention and missed my runs.

Default Trying to decide

Hey everyone... first of all the old lady is PISSED that i'm actually trying to swing this swap. My(Actually my little brother's) last vehicle before this 2000 Mustang GT Sunburst Gold 5-speed was a 2000 Lightning with bolt-ons, hood, rims .... just everything, it was my daily driver for almost 2 years with over 400rwhp and 525 lb-ft... needless to say traction was rare and the gas tank seemed to have a leak... so going from a 12 sec truck(auto) to a 14 sec car(5-speed) SUCKS.
So now I'm in this 2000 GT catching the fever again and i'm actually considering this, so i know the HPS intake is about $600, rotating assembly minus crank is about a grand, blocks are $50 and up. So my question is what do the 1.75" Longtubes cost and how hard are they gonna be to get? Am i still going to have to pay "custom" prices? just trying to see if it would be easier to throw a novi2000 or a 76mm turbo, because that route stock everything but injectors and fuel pump i know 350rwhp(stock block) and up is possible EASILY(been there done that 03 gt novi2000 @ 5.5psi).
So if you know something i don't please comments welcome!

Default Sorry

And if I go 5.4 with a completely stock short block(NON-PI), HPS 5.4 intake, Longtubes, off-road x-pipe, and cams stage 2 maybe 3(if possible) w/ valvesprings on stock heads, CAI, 70mm throttle body + plenum, 80mm mass air, fuel pump, SCT tuning, has anyone done a swap similar to this and whats kind of rwhp and rwtq should i expect? and if you feel i left something out please ask maybe i never even thought of it, i've been known to be wrong more than once....(this week)
Also I would absolutely love to see some Dyno sheets if at all possible.
please help!
sincerely,
Underpowered in E. Tn

tsb6980 - the longtubes are coming along slowly but they will run 1000 for a 1.75 stainless steel set. the HPS intake runs $695 and is a must if your spending the time and money for a decent motor. i'd go with stage 3 cams since there is no PTV issues( pm if your interested in some comp 278's)

hopefully tomarrow i'll get a newer pic of the LT's

illwill / r3d - In your opinion, what is the biggest roadblock in getting a pair of longtubes for a 4.6 to fit under the car? Was it lack of space due to the strut towers? steering shaft / k-member in the way? ...

I have a set of flowtech longtubes for a 4.6 that I've been considering trying to cut up to fit my 5.4 but I wonder if I might be getting in over my head.

mean330 - i chopped up a set of hedmen for the same deal. it is alot of work and hassle, it's better to build them fresh. there is alot of chopping rewelding, holding up under the car to check fit, etc. when uou use 4.6 headers on a 5.4 they pivot out and hit the body in 2 places and need length added and the mid pipe modded as well. after all said and done mine still didn't fit like i wanted. FTPerformance is building some and they will be 1.75 stainless so if you can swing a grand for high quality long tubes i'd wait for these to be out.

Not realy any progress had to order a new oil filter adapter cause 2 welding jobs and kept cracking under pressure my floor is horrid ;x but if did run for a bit but had no 02s hooked up which im linking to it diieing and after 02s hooked up it kinda trys to run but dies will run when using the gas pedal to give her some juice.

soo 177 bucks tomorrow gets me new adapter/gasket/oil press sender

then hopefully it will continue to run when i start it....

maybe tomorrow ill also call up the tuning shop pay the 380ish bucks for a maker her run recipe chip if it wont stay running then for 300 more take it in later for final tuning.

pretty much all i think i have left is ... modify hood/oil adapter/redo the H pipe/find out what drive belt i need since the 4.6 belt is to damn tight and tensioner cant loosen any further/and get it to stay running

probaly doesnt help the MAF is wired in from a mark viii with 24lb injects and stage 2 cams computer probaly going WTF DUDE STOP haha
