help with some numbers please:

I have one good PI head on my 4.6, and one good one on the 5.4

Will these work together on the car? Or will something not fit

5.4 number

RF-XL3E-6090-C20D

4.6 number

RF1L2E-6090

Do you have a Windsor or Romeo 4.6? Hopefully you have a Windsor so then you can stay on the same page. Count the valve cover bolts. If I remember right 11 is Romeo and Windsor is 13 or 14.

that's a good set. one is a windsor one is a romeo. it's cool as far as I know, other than having 2 different valve cover series which doesn't even matter.

I have a bad one on the 5.4 which I think is a windsor, and a bad one on the 4.6 which i think is a romeo

If I use one of each, is the only thing that will not match up is the valve covers?

yeah... well there are some bolt diameter differences but you'll have all the bolts you won't really have any "problems" with it.. it's a pretty simple thing to figure out and treat when you have 2 complete motors to draw parts off of.

EDIT: might **** off a mechanic someday.

Default who cursed my 5.4?

i leave the mechanic's shop and tell him i dont like the noise its making... he says dont worry, its just knicking away at your windage tray, its no big deal (i'm upset but whatever), so i put 500 miles on it and 1 drag run, and take it back to him and say there's another noise now, something is ratteling up front and i dont like it. The car sits for 18 days, then he drives it and says: "yeah, i heard the ratteling, something loose up there, but thats the least of my concern. i dont like the noise the engine is making... were taking it out!" my jaw hit the floor. They dont know what it is but they started taking the engine out yesterday. He said it might be a rod bearing or something of the sort... we'll see.

Good news is i can finally change the design from twin's to n/a... change cams and pistons, raise the compression above 8:1 to something like 10.5-11:1 and really get some power outa this beotch.

Stay Tuned for more details.

Default oil pan clearance

I'm glad I found out about the oil pan baffle clearance issues on here! I thought I could just bolt the 4.6 pan on and go. I hurt me knee at work and I'm laid up right now. If it wasn't for that I'd have put it in without clearancing the baffles first! I have the pan on already but it is still on the stand, so I can just take it back off and fix it. I will try to get sopme more pics asap.

The guy doing your work, I hope he isn't charging you for the labor of pulling the motor again.

Default pics

You can see the 4.6 x-pipe is quite a bit too narrow. On the last pic, on this BBK off-road x-pipe, I was able to attach the flat flange side, sit in a chair and put my foot on the other side and flex it over. It actually wasn't that bad. I was going to put a relief cut in it at the x and reweld it to widen it. Now that I did this, I am not going to do that. When I put it together I will just flex it over to install it. This will hopefully give a reference to people doing this so they can fit thier pipe on the stand like I did . If you are able to get it fir ahead of time, it will eliminate a surprise when you go to put it on.

the guy that helped me put my first 5.4 in egged on his friend with the 99 cobra to play with me as we were driving down the road. he was suprised when i pulled on his cobra with just bolt ons. plus a couple fox bodies got pulled away and had to see how a mod motor beat thier tied and true 5.0....

No he said it would be warranted… I’ve been so disappointed with some of the work they have done, but Mechanics are a slippery slope. They have my ***** in a preverbal vise, so-to-speak. One must not upset the man who holds his $25,000 toy.. erg .. I mean investment.

ok, ok.. mistakes happen, but i would assume you are a qualified technician, so if were to make a mistake, how much are you motivated to make right by it when the customer comes in and calls you an incompetant s^t head? So, i just mean that i want to be very patient and understanding that in every line of work mistakes happen, and i think the difference between being rude and polite is the difference between paying for their mistake and not. no harm?

My g/f bought me the Sean Hyland book last night and the building hp on the dyno book... hopefully i can become a much more productive member of this society.

Don't categorize us as all the same, that's all Im saying. Hopefully you will get it resolved. It seems that they are taking care of it. You will now also have an opportunity to fix the oil pan at least.

no doubt... ok here we go:
My Mechanic: "You spun a rod bearing." Me: "What does that mean?" "It means the whole engine has to come apart. So if you want to change the pistons for a n/a build nows the time... oh and I'm going to pay for a new Rod, new crank, and new head gasket for the one that has to come off because it was our fault." again my jaw hits the floor,... but this time, in a good way.
