would my stang benefit from using a higher octane fuel or is 87 sufficient?

If your car is acting funny bump it up on octane. If it's running fine then leave it alone you'd just be paying more and wasting good gas money for later. Unless you have a tune such as me I have to run on 89 octane.

Default my take

I run 93 only for peace of mind. It tends to get hot around here, and traffic around post is ridiculous at times. So I do it mostly just to make darn sure I don't have any detonation problems but infact I would probably be just fine with my factory tune. Plus, I like to drive it hard, like getting on 190, 0-75 bursts 4 times a day make me happy. Slappy's got a point, these cars are tuned from the factory to run less than premium gas, otherwise, it would say Premium fuel only on the gas gauge. Just don't bother with octane boosters, if you read the fine print, on a full tank of gas, they would only raise about .8 of an octane point.

i only got better mpg when i used 89 that was about it. i never used 87 thought it was too low of a octane to use.

Once again if you are not tuned runnign higher octane does nothing. all octane is used for is to make the motor not detonate and kill itself. so if you computer is stock dont bother your wasting money.

Running higher octane than is required is not only wasting money, you can actually get a build-up on your plugs and valves. If your car pings or knocks on 87 and you have the factory tune there's something wrong with the engine.Carbon deposits in the combustion chambers, the wrong heat range plugs,EGR malfuntions,or overheating can all cause knocking.I have a Steeda timing adjuster set at +3 and have absolutely no knocking or pinging at any speed or load condition.BTW I only run 87.
