Default 4.6 to 5.4 2V swap.. where to start looking

I religiously comb craigslist and poke around ebay and all I can ever find are $2000 reman 5.4L. R3D, Jack and Sxyxc all have mentioned the low cost of the swap. I saw the one post R3D did, I think it was from Craigs, of the one that needed the rebuild for $500 or so but I am curious, where do I need to look for low-mid mileage complete 5.4s?

Admittedly I have not called around to the local salvage yards yet, but that seems to be the only other option at this point - unless you guys have suggestions?

junkyard is a awesome idea. once you get a motor its best to rebuild it with some good parts. remember you can sell your stock stuff to help recoup some money.

Check around on eBay too. Looking around one day I saw a guy selling an entire Expedition for $500. So not only do you get the engine, but you can part out the car for more cash.

I got mine off ebay from a company named LKQ, a '03 with 40k miles from an expedition, complete without accessories. $900 shipped. You could contact some of the bigger junkyards, and ask for one. I checked locally and they quoted me $1800 and they didnt even have one. I'd just wait and watch till something came up, or just buy a forged short block...

ebay... only costs about 2-300 bucks and a pallet stolen from behind a grocery store to ship a motor.

Never forget www.car-part.com.

On a side note, I have a 99 block that needs sleeved if anyone wants to do a real bigbore job on it. #6 cylinder is dinged pretty deep otherwise its solid.

Is there any real advantage in getting the ECM and harness with the engine. The guy I am working with will throw in the harness and ECM for $100.

I would say no, the wiring and ECM in your car will work just fine.

i gave my buddy a laptop (purchased for 220 maybe) for the motor/trans out of his f250. It was repo'd shortly after I got done with it.

That's a good deal for any motor/trans, lol
