Typhoon warning

Typhoon warning
I know its still rather new to the market, but has anybody purchased and installed one of those POWER-PLUS TYPHOON INTAKE MANIFOLDS. They claim 20+HP throughout your rpm range. If this is true, I'm definately going to consider buying one.

The intake is a good intake but it's really just a little higher flowing version of the stock plastic intake that's made from aluminum. Cams, nitrous or a blower will make best use of it.
Remember, the stock intake is not a restriction point at NA 4.6 2v power levels. The cams and head flow are limiting power production so unless you've made some pretty significant mods it's really just a shiny piece of metal for the top of the engine.
For the price, it's a nice to have thing since the plastic intakes are still kinda fragile and not to be trusted with large hits of nitrous. If you bust a plastic intake on a nitrous backfire you'll probably suck plastic shards into the intake valves and bend the snot out of them.
For those that arent' clear, it's a real intake manifold, not a tornado or other similar turbulence inducer. The Tornado and things like it are PROVEN not to work.

I've been buying intake manifolds for almost 20 years, at $529, you CAN NOT convince me that short of an N2O backfire, that this manifold is worth the cash. Your plastic intake is smooth inside, this one WILL have casting flash internally, RESTRICTING flow. If it were a departure from the stock design that would make power up into the 6000 rpm range (like a Victor Jr, or Performer RPM for a 5.0) it would be worth it, but a simple cast Al copy of what you have, not a chance.

check out the hardball'r from HPS www.hiperformancesolutions.com. It's a much more flexible design that's nothing like the original. HUGE plenum and shorter runners. I prefer that one for most applications. It's in production and should be on sale soon if not already.

The initial bolt ons will give a pretty good kick in the pants, but with ANY engine, a 429 CJ or a Harley, there comes a point where your dollar per horsepower gets really skewed. This Hardball'r intake and my shortie headers are both examples there of. The manifold is spendy, but after you have done everything else...

yeah there was an article in 5.0 where they tested it on a cammed and head car with unknown compression where it did gain 20rwhp. but that doesnt mean anything for people who are just bolted on. anyways.. ill probably purchase a intake manifold in a few months.. when they hit the market and people have tested them. but it won't be the typhoon

ditto on that. The typhoon seems like the stock type intake answer for peeps that want to use lots of nitrous.
The hardball'r is basically designed to hold up to nitrous backfires according to the manufacturer. I don't know if it'll actually withstand a big one but it's a serious improvement over the stock design just in plenum size. You'll get crisp throttle response at minimum but the shorter runners will probably move the power peak out a bit in the RPM band. I've been working with HPS on their 5.4L hardball'r development. That's going to be a helluva unit for 5.4's but power gains will probably still be in the 10-20hp range on a cammed motor.

You guys might want to check out the HPS intake. they've got units cast and some neat pics on the site. The lower plenum is just HUGE and the runners are giant inside. They had pics of the runner casting cores earlier and you could see how big they were. Dyno tests will be up soon and then we'll all see what happens.
