Default Tell me bout your cams...

Hi everyone. I have a 2002 Mustang GT 5spd with 100K miles on it. Only performance mods are a pair of 40 series flowmasters and and off road h pipe. Im looking into getting a set of cams. One day i want a blower. But its gonna be awhile. Tell me what kinda cams your running, other mods necessary with cams,, and how u like them. Thanks ahead of time for all responses.

save ur money and get a built block...that engine is a ticking time bomb if u put high performance parts in it....or atleast get a built short block and use ur stock heads and intake....

if u dont take my advice..then thats cool....go with a comp cam 262's...nice idle too...

why u call it a time bomb,, cause of the miles? Too many miles for cams?
Thanks

i couldnt think of a better phrase...but there is going to be something to go wrong with working on an engine w/ that many miles....once a car passes 70k...thats when i would stop adding power mods....only cause of the wear and tear of the car...unless it is built extremely strong....

i plan on getting forged rotating assembly for my car so when i boost...i dont have to worry about my piston rods breaking...also..my car only has 21,xxx miles so i still have room to play since its a low mileage car....

and there is never a certian mileage where u CANT put cams in...its just recomended that u dont put too much stress on a high mileage car like ur self....

Rough idle from aggressive cams hurt a supercharger's ability to make boost. If you have solid plans on getting a s/c...ever, then dont get the aggressive cams. Maybe something light, but nothin major

if you're going to get a s/c in the future get blower cams, otherwise you'll waste so much boost and it'll never be used.

with more aggressive cams you have to do valvesprings, which is a hard job.

I've been firing off nitrous since my motor had 78,000 miles on it and now has close to 85,000...if the motor has been taken care of properly he'll be ok.

The one thing you do want to get done before you do a cam install is do a compression test to make sure everything is in order.

Worse comes to worse down the road his motor pops and gets a short block and puts those cams on that and some new heads. No worries just be prepared

+1

A set of custom cams with a S/C can make big gains. I picked 45rwhp. I actually made more but i asked for a very conservative tune.

Yeah, don't let high mileage deter you from things. Just make sure your motor is in good condition before dropping a ton of cash into it. An engine with 50k hard driven, *** whooped miles is in alot worse condition than one with 100k normal miles. I have a '94 with 160k miles and she purrrrrsssssss. lol Just make sure your motor is in good shape and you'll be fine.

aggressive cams usually have greater overlap which good for NA motors. Allows more scavenging. That same overlap bleeds boost into the exhaust on a blower/turbo motor reducing the output. At least that's what I understand of it so far. Since they make blower specific cams, if you plan on a blower, get blower cams.

yep. get a cam with alot of lift and little lobe sep. angle. the vt stage 2 cams have a 108 centerline i think, which is way to much for a blower or turbo. but would work fine with N2O.

Yea if the engine has been taken care of, you still have another 100,000 miles to put on her.

Save that cam money and put it towards a blower. If you do end up blowing the engine, its only an excuse to put a 5.4 in there.

a man after my own heart. beat that 4.6 till it blows and drop a 5.4L block in there.

262's will give you a nice bump. VT cams have a lot more overlap which is better for NA performance but could cause you to fail emissions if you're in a strict state.
