Question Blown or Crate Motor???

I was doing some thinking......Why spend 8,000 for a SC when you can buy a crate motor for about 4,000 with the same amount of HP/TQ?????? Anyone want to elaborate on this?????

What year car do you have? I got my KB 1.7L w/big tube kit, 90MM MAF, 75 MM TB, tune and the boost-a-spark.....delivered to my door for just over $6200. I did the install, which is really rather easy. That saved some coin there. If you are going to get the KB I would really recommend you doing the install yourself. The tune they send is actually pretty good. I layed down great numbers and my A/F is right where it should be. If you are military, tell them.....you get 5% discount too.

If you order, order by phone. See if you can talk to Lisa. She gave me the discount. In all honesty, you don't need to be some great mechanic to do a KB install. They send out an install manual with pics and everything. It took me 2 days to do the install with no help. It really is not hard at all.
I wish I was still stationed in NC, I would help with the install.

For alittle over $6000, you could get a kick *** crate motor that has tons of HP and TQ. Also the internals would be beefed up for a SC later on. Brothers performace sells a kit were you get an New 01 Cobra motor that has everyhthing on it, the tranny, exhaust and computer for under 6 grand. But like i said 6 G's for a SC or 6 G's for a motor, i would go with the motor.

you can get a used centrifugal blower kit for around $2000-2500

To get a crate motor with similar numbers to a blower motor you would have to go high compression which would not go well with a blower later on.

If I were to get a crate motor with the plans for a blower then there wouldn't be a ton of power gain due to the lower compression that I would get.

I plan to just swap out the rotating assembly on my engine eventually

Yes, unless you are talking about a 5.0 based crate motor, with pushrods and one cam, no crate motor for 4k is going to touch a blower. The 6895 you are looking at I guess is from Modular Power House? In that case, it is installed, tuned, and everything for that price. Id definately get the blower first.

Andys Auto sport is a joke! they are a 3 person dealer. If your going to spend the money..turbo it. It's more tunable and can make alot more power.

spend a lot less and just build a 4.6. They're not that expensive to build and you can have it built to whatever level you want to fund. If you want boost later, there's always room for a centri under the hood and you'll at least have a motor built for boost.
