Question Crate Motor Vs. Rebuild???

hello.... so what do you guys think i should do engine wise to my 92 gt.... should i just get it rebuilt, or just buy like a crate motor? i want my car to be fast, cuz i like to street race and stuff..... but i still like to have fun on the track with my friends... if any of you have any suggestion at all it would help, even if its not crate or rebuild.... maybe stroker is the way to go... im not sure yet, but i still need to be somewhat cost efficiant.:helpsmili

well is anything wrong with ur motor now? how many miles? is it ticking, knocking, loosing oil? if not then i would just start with a tune up. then bolt ons, advance the timing (run 93), get some gears and maybe later blower or h/c/i. or like me eventually both!
you can always rebuild it before u do all those things to freshened up. might as well get a kit with forged pistons. summit has some rebuild kits, go check them out. u can make the comp. low for the blower or run it high and spray it w/ a nice shot.
or if ya want more cubes check out these sites..

both of those are also good for crates, few more i can think of..

complete rebuild and crate are around the same in most cases. So i say go crate i think they have a 375hp 302 for a few grand.

yea if ur paying someone to do it. rebuild kit+labor of course ull get hit in the head. :bash:
u can get a rebuild kit anywhere from 300-1000. for a short block 1500+ and thats for a 306. now u have to add h/c/i another 2000-3000 and whatever else ull need, so u can see how itll add up. now if u want a long block thats 4000+.
i guess if u go crate u could always sell ur old motor to get some money back, but to me id just build what i had 1st. then when it craps out look at a crate.jmo.

well my motor has a hair under 150000 miles, so their are alot of miles on it, but no MAJOR problems..... right now i have bbk headers, bbk x-pipe w/o cats, flowmastewrs, and a bbk cold air intake... not much, but a little something to help... so im still deciding what to do. it looks as if everybody is heading toward the crate motor. another thing is that i want my car loud... i mean it is pretty loud right now, i guess thats what all my friends say, but i need it louder. but i should probablly worry about my engine first. but any suggestions as to what kind of exhaust to run to get it loud and sounding good would help.

If you go crate, make sure your headers will still bolt up no problem, unless you want the extra cost of new headers as well.

are u running tailpipes? if not then just dump ur flows. id try that before buying a new catback.

mine were so loud when i dumped my flows, had headaches driving in the car.

Yeah i just noticed it wasn't 5.0 it was MM&FF lol...I got them all in a huge stack i get MM&FF, 5.0 and MT every month so i get confused often lol...

BUt yeah This months MM&FF theres a Red Cobra on the cover... there are two articals about what to do and don't and one on more information, they listed a couple places for crate engine also...

A build is going to be just as good or better - 1 you can build specifically to your needs, 2 its going to be cheaper - to build and use better interals that you crate motor does - 3 - you your motor fits and fits well - and all the hoses and computer stuff is already there i.e. A/c etc - most of the people here don't know what theyre talking about - your going to come out alot better with a performance rebuild - especially if your planing on makeing crazy power.
