Our cats are solid units that are welded in as all newer cars are.

Inside is a honeycomb-like material. If you drill through it you can kiss your cats goodbye and your exhaust will be shooting metal chunks out. your car will not run right because of your exhaust being blocked by chunks of metal from your cats.

I have the material inside the cats here is a pic. I had a 3" high flow cat on my SVO runing 21#s of boost. One day I heard what sounded like marbles. When I removed the 3" down pipe which was welded to cat I notice it was broken. Since I had a ball joint close to the cat so I was able to break it using a pry bar. It was completely hollowed out and the tubo sounded louder.

Just save yourself the hassle and buy a 100 dollar mac h pipe with no cats.

you can knock it out and not worry about shooting out metal everywhere. I have done it to 3 mustangs, not a problem yet.
