Default buying the misses a pup

well, i decided for this christmas to get the gf a pup, i narrowed it down to 1.a lab(brown or black) 2. jack russel terrier or 3. a yorkie.

out of the 3 , which would be more enjoyable for her and me, but more for her?. im leaning towards a black lab for my personal reasons lol

Black labs are wonderful dogs... very energetic, loveable, smart, and can be trained fairly easily. On the down side... they can be quite destructive as pups, and by pups i mean for the first year - year and a half. They suffer from separation anxiety rather easily which is generally what leads to their destructive behavior. LOL All that said, they're still great dogs i used to have one and i loved him

Jack Russlles are ultrahyper, and if you don't have enough room for them to run I would think twice. They need exercise all the time or they will reek havoc in your house.

Yorkies are a good choice for her. Lap dog, but can become possessive. Long hair may be very hard to keep groomed. Daily brushing and lots of shedding. Hair will be everywhere if you let them lay where they want to.

I say get a Beagle. LOL, Beagles are the most wonderful dogs you can own. as puppies the are unmatched in the cuteness factor. and after they are grown are well behaved, and if you establish the rules they will react to your every command. ( most dogs will do that anyway). My wife and i have owned several breeds, and my beagle wins hands down.. She's the best all around pet we've ever had.. Just don't over feed em.. They live for food..

Since i have a lab/chow id recomend lab. My dog is really smart and hes not overly hyper at all. Then again hes 7. They are very smart dogs and can by fun to play with. All depends on how you raise a dog really.

It really depends on what size dog you want. Labs are a large breed, so be prepared when they jump on the couch with you. Plus the long hair factor again. ( this will become an issue, if you don't like hair everywhere).

All puppies are cute, but that only lasts for a few months. 1 year they are considered grown..

You shouldn't surprize her with a dog she may not like. so you may want to inform her of your idea and get her opinion, or if you know her really well, then you'll know what kind of dog she would like. Think long term dude. Most puppies end up in a shelter when they grow up, Please don't let that happen. And if you can, get one from a rescue, you will get a warm feeling everytime you see your new friend..

Damn, dude...sounds like you went through the list of all dogs in existence and picked out 3 of the most high-maintenance choices.

Labs are cute as hell but are the most destructive *************.
I lost a lot of valuable **** in my house because of my yellow labs.

Jack Russels are trendy and what-not, but those things are so high-strung, you'll blow your ******* brains out trying to deal with them.

Yorkies just look like dustmops and **** everywhere.

...good luck though on your decision.

*Disclaimer: Boosted actually knows nothing about dogs, and his post should be completely ignored by all that read this thread. Oh, he is also a huge douchecanoe.

Of those choices, I would vote for the lab.
They are only destructive if left to their own devices. They are a working breed and need a job to keep them occupied or they will make thier own and you won't like it!! Crate training is great. I have a Golden Retriever and HIGHLY recommend them. He is an excellent pet and easily trained and never destroyed anything that wasn't his. They are high maintenance because of the long hair and it is everywhere no matter what, it's just something you learn to deal with because you love your dog.

Yorkies are never completely house trained!! They yap all the time and **** whenever they feel like it.

Jack Russells are awesome dogs but aren't usually good with kids and need a great deal of excersize time.

Good Luck

Dude, just get a good ole mutt from a shelter or the pound. Rescue dogs are awesome. My lil pup is a mutt and has turned out to be the best dog ever!!! She's smart as hell, loves absolutely EVERYONE she meets, wants nothing more than to be loved on, and best of all, i saved her life.

+1 To all the above, go to the pound find a nice young puppy and save him. Usually people just dump dogs off because they dont wanna take care of them, not because something is wrong with them.

You can also rescue a pure breed. Just google the breed and add rescue.

Nice choice with the husky. I've known a few people with them and they are nice dogs.

Congrats on your new best friend. Just google him and find out specific needs and what nots. Main thing is for you and your family to be the leader and he will follow after you establish the roles.. Any dog can be trained to fit your needs and wants, and in very little time in most cases. Just be calm and assertive around him. ( in other words don't get angry and just holler and smack). He will pick up from your demeanor. Be the boss and give affection at the right times.. Have fun with him, but if oversteps his boundry, quickly and sharply correct his behavior.
