She's a Border Collie, Be prepared for some lively action from her. You might want to consider looking up Border Collies and, how to live peacfully with them.. Very high strung, active as all get out, and really needs to run everyday.. She's Beautiful BTW. I would love to own one.. Good Luck,

Thanks, shes actually not as hyper as you would think and i CANNOT believe how smart she is! This is the first day ive had her, and shes already learning to only go potty in the grass, to stop jumping up, the "Sit" command, and shes SOO affectionate. Shes got plenty of room to run, i live on 136 acres. Everytime i leave her in her cage(for potty training inside) she doesnt whine or moan, at first she did for like the first few hours but now when i go out and play with her, ill tell her to go in and she walks right in and plomps down. Ive had bad experiences with other dogs before this one, but i got a really good feeling about her. Btw i still cant think of an adequate name.

Here's a link to help if you want.

http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/a...ooks.html&nm=4

She actually looks like a purebred, but if not, I bet she's gonna act like one. They are very intellegent. but they have needs most other dogs don't. Herder dogs can't just lay around with out some kind of stimulation to keep them from going ape **** in your house.. This link is just one of many for your new pet, Glad you decided to adopt her though, she looks precious, and eager to please I bet..

Wow i hope my pup isnt like that soon. Ive never had her nip at my ankles, or even try to run away yet. She sticks right by me or my other dog constantly, although she doesnt like the stray chiuahwahwa(dunno how to spell it, dont care) er well the little rat doesnt like the pup. But right now she looks really sweet and not that destructive, ive had a gold lab before and she was just plain destructive. Either way, i think shes gunna be a really good dog.

Wowowweewow that lady has got to know the perfections of training a dog, but ALOT of free time. I wouldnt like my dog like that, it seems like constantly training, always trying to get the dog to do something. My dogs know the usual tricks, sit, lay, roll, shake, beg, and fetch. Either way too much training for me though its really cool.

awesome! weird, but we actually got a similar breed dog that was in a similar situation a few months ago. she was a border collie/cattle hound mix that looks very similar. she was next on the list to be put down at her shelter. there's a local group here (at another non-kill shelter) that monitors the lists and goes and brings the "next" animal on the list their shelter so they don't die and hopefully someone can adopt them, so that's how we found out about her and we got her on the same day she was moved from shelters.

Wow if you've got all them animals then oreo will surely be herding them very soon. If she looks like she's ready to pounce on them don't worry she just gonna herd them. and they will abide by her rules.. .. It's bred into her and she will do this to please you and herself. Reward her and let her be a border collie.. Probably God's gift to cattle and sheep owners from way back.

That's why most professional dog trainers recommend crate training. A dog will not go in their cage unless it's absolutely necessary, Make sure you let her out while your home, and also I've learned it's best to keep them on the same diet without exception. Believe me, my Beagle will eat anything you give her but it just upsets her digestive tract and she gets real irregular.. And she will try to give you that Cutie pie look, if you've got something she would like to taste Don't fall for it. Give her the usual treat ( Lucy ) my beagle loves milk bones of any flavor. And her food of choice is Purina Fit and trim, cause she got a little thick in the middle. LOL.. No people food..

Keep us updated on her progress, I'm eager to see if she's gonna act like a pure bred Border Collie. From her pics, she looks purebred..

Haha k, so far shes been a dream. So smart, shes gotten the commands Sit, Come, and go potty mastered. She has yet to go to the bathroom in her cage, and has only once in the house a little. She is just like any puppy though, always playful, affectionate, and hyper. Took her to the vet today and they estimate her age as 10 weeks, and weighs 18lbs. She really wants to be a lap puppy but shes already so big, plus she has fleas still from the pound. We let her in often and play with her easily everyday, she still likes to jump on you but shes stopping that now due to a water bottle sprayer

Crate training is the best way to train your pup. I got my pup Tank when he was about 10-12 weeks old and 18 lbs. It only took him about 4 days to be completely potty trained and he is so smart he knows not to chew on our ****. We hardly ever use his crate anymore and he knows his limits very well. He is not allowed on any of our furniture under any circumstances other than my bed with me and my girl at night. It's great because he sits next to it and crys a bit kinda like hes asking if he could get up before we say its ok ha. Now hes almost 7 months and 53lbs and he is a beast of a pup. I am so happy i decided to abopt a pup and i'm happy you chose to do the same because i hate people that go spend omg amounts of money on a dog when there are so many wonderful dogs that need great homes instead of being put down. keep us all updated on her....i need to post some pics of my pup

Use " frontline" or " advantage" for fleas. It's just a little tube of liquid stuff you squirt between her shoulder blades. Kills fleas for 1 month, and you get a 6 month supply. It works great. And please get her on heartworm pills, same deal, you give her 1 tablet a month, and you get a 6 month supply.

Also, you don't need a water bottle, she's probably the most intellegent breed of dog of all. Just a quick snap of your finger and an assertive "no"
will do the trick. After she knows your the boss.. You gotta be her "pack leader" and she will be happier non destructive if you remain Calm and assertive..

LOL, So can you tell who watches the " Dog Whisperer". I've learned more from Ceasar Milan than from any trainer I've taken my many dogs to..

Watch it a few times and see how he handles any dog of any breed, He gets control of them from the get go..

Congrats! I only get dogs from the shelter. Both of mine I got from the shelter and they are super sweet and great dogs. Plus they got saved and only cost $45 for one and $75 for the other. Unlike the people for pay $1,000-2,000 for a dog, which I el oh el at.

Yeah I just got a pup about a month or so ago, some of you may remember the pics I posted of him. Sad thing is, is that AFTER I get him I learn SO much more about the dog breeding world. I have seen shows about dog "farms" where breeders have hundreds of dogs living in horrible conditions and ****. It made me wonder about the breeder I got my dog from. Now that I KNOW. . . . I would MUCH rather go to the local shelter and save a pooch from being put down next time. It has been my expeirience in the past that "muts" make such a good pet. Growing up with many dogs in the family, all except one was a mut.

To the OP way to go on the shelter pooch bro! You have done a good thing. Hope all works out well with him.

UGH, today shes bieng a pain.....Got home, and smelled poop. Figured maybe it was my cats because Oreo stays outside in her pen all day. Cleaned it up, it smelled PROFUSELY and was wet inside so i know it was Oreo. (I can tell the difference between puppy poop and cat poop...) And i think shes having a reaction to the shot she got yesterday for something, so she threw up yesterday on our cowhide rug...And again today, same place. Now ive kicked her our for a bit and all shes doing is pawing at the door.

If it's a reaction it shouldn't last long and you can giver her some benedryl or dramamine for the vomiting. I'm sure as soon as she feels better she be back to her well behaved self.
