Default PSN charges

Looks like Sony might start charging to have certain features on PSN. I figured nothing could stay free forever.

You would post this lol. To everyone with a PS3: Stop worrying. Sony has stated they will never charge for online gaming, and ALL of PSN's current features will remain free.

Four separate subscription models were outlined, with monthly prices scaling from $4.99 to $9.99, and annual prices from $29.99 to $69.99. Premium features could include access to beta games, free PSOne titles, cross-game voice chat, one-hour free trials of games, and even remote 'cloud' storage.
This is all they are talking about right now. Paying a monthly/yearly fee for FULL access to the PSOne library, early beta invites, hour long game trials, and online data storage.
You aren't being forced into this. I personally think it's a good idea because those would be great services, and will most likely sign up for that.

They aren't charging for PSN, rename the topic title. All it is is extra bonus stuff, and a great deal if true.

I won't change the name thanks. Plus I did mention it was for certain features and not for online gaming itself. Don't worry, there will be a time that Sony will start charging for online. Can't believe everything Sony tells you.

By the way, I think it's stupid that you would have to pay to get only an hour long of a game demo.

you already pay your ISP... after that...companies have to SPEND money to block you from parts of their domains that they want to charge for. I think that's bullshit.

That's like having to pay a cover charge at a club on the way in the front door, and then again at your seat or table or w/e.

It's a good thing you DON'T have to pay for that.
It's not like PSN won't stop getting free demos like normal, too...you're just thinking of excuses to bash this now.
Plus, everything Sony has told me before has come true, so I don't know what you're talking about. Honestly why make this topic if all you're going to do is hate on PS3? What a ******* deutsch lol

Here's a much better article.
http://www.sonyinsider.com/2009/12/2...rvice-details/

Customer Service Priority Access
Priority access to PlayStation’s customer service both online and via phone should you need technical help or have questions about your products. This feature gives you support with little to no waiting.

Exclusive Experiences with Sony Brands
Get member-only access to attend exclusive Sony events and experiences throughout the year, including those offered by PlayStation, Sony Pictures, and Sony Music.

Extended Console Warranty 3 Years
Get your PS3 warranty extended to 3 years as part of your overall subscription (requires you to keep your subscription active). The standard warranty on your PS3 is 1 year.

Access to Beta Games
Get access to Betas of popular games not yet released at retail (Betas offer bigger experiences than typical game demos). You will have the ability to play these games before others do.

Early Access to All Store Content
Get early access to select free and purchasable game related content on the PlayStation Store before it’s available to everyone else. This includes games, add-ons, themes, avatars, as well as free game demos.

Member Demo Sharing of Full Game
Share a level of a game that you just purchased for your PS3 with a subscriber who doesn’t own the game. Your friends could do the same. This would be an exclusive demo not available otherwise to those who haven’t purchased the game.

Cross-game Voice Chat Access
Get exclusive member-only access to cross-game voice chat. This is the ability to use your headset to voice chat with friends on your PS3 regardless of what they are doing on the PS3.

Full Title Trial – 1st Hour Is Free
Download full versions of select Blu-ray and PSN game titles and have the chance to play the entire game (single or multiplayer) for free for the first hour. After that time you will have the option of purchasing the game to continue playing.

Token Wagering
Get a fixed number of tokens per month you can wager with other players in competitive online games. These tokens could then be built up and redeemed for free PlayStation Network games and other content.

User-to-user Challenges
Unlock developer-created challenges while playing games. Compete with your friends to see who can be the first to complete these challenges. The PS3 will automatically offer and track challenges and winners and would post results. An example of a challenge is ‘first to get 10 trophies’ in a particular game.

Free Access to PSOne Classics, PSP Minis, and PS3/PSP Themes
Get a fixed number of PSOne Classic games, PSP Minis (bite-sized games), and PS3/PSP themes per month to keep for free for as long as you are a subscriber. The PlayStation Store offers these types of content for $2-6 each.

Discounts on Store Content
Get weekly member-exclusive discounts on specific games, game add-ons and themes on the PlayStation Store. Discounts may range from 20-50% off regular retail prices.

Member Only In-game Content
Get exclusive member-only in-game content for your PS3 or PSP such as new game play options, unlocked in-game weapons or player slots, exclusive levels, costumes/skins, and PlayStation Home spaces.

Trophy Alerts
Get automated alerts on your PlayStation XrossMedia Bar, PlayStation.com, and via text message (if you so choose) that alert you when your friends get any trophy or a specific one. This feature is customizable – you can choose which friends to receive alerts from and what kinds of alerts.

Cloud Storage Space for Games
Store your game saves on a virtual secure saver. This would allow you to access your game saves at any point in time, and from any PlayStation 3 or PSP console you are logged in on.

Online Music Service
Get a streaming music service that allows you to choose your channel based on music style, artist type, etc. and listen to an unlimited number of tracks. This service would be for use outside of playing a game and similar to Pandora or a Last.fm.

Online Music Video Service
Get a streaming music video service on your PlayStation 3 that lets you stream music videos from a continuously growing catalog of music and allows you to create a custom playlist to play back.

Automatic Downloads and Updates
Customize the types of updates you want your PS3 to download automatically. These include game updates (patches) for games that you own, firmware updates, and game demos downloaded on your PS3 without manually having to select them and wait for them to finish downloading. Your PS3 can be set to automatically turn on for updates and turn off after completion.

Loyalty Program Rewards
Get rewards the longer you are a subscriber and also earn rewards by engaging with PlayStation such as buying games, downloading movies, and rating products. Rewards can include full versions of PlayStation Network games and digital movie rentals from the PlayStation Store.

Facebook Connectivity
Access to member-exclusive Facebook features on your PlayStation 3, such as viewing and linking your Facebook accounts with their PSN ID’s, updating your status, editing, uploading and sharing photos, and viewing photo albums of your friends on your TV.

Catch-up TV
Get access to popular TV shows and movies through service providers such as Hulu, simply by clicking an icon on your PS3 XrossMedia navigation bar.

Netflix Access Without Disc
Access the Netflix video streaming service on your PS3 without the need to insert a special disc into the drive each time to access the service. A separate Netflix subscription would also be needed to enjoy the service. Netflix offers over 17000 popular movies and TV shows for streaming on your laptop or a supported device such as a PS3.
If you think it's a bad deal (and if you do, you're insane), look at it this way. WAY more than what XBOX Live has to offer. Plus, the only thing PSN is missing that Live has currently is cross-game voice chat. So don't even think about complaining about this if you're a Live subscriber, unless it's about how Microsoft ripped you off over the years.

SIGN. ME. UP.

Your funny Blaze. If you would actually read my thread, and yes its my thread so I can say whatever I want, I never bashed having to pay for PSN or anything like that. I just brought up the fact that Sony might start charging for some online services. You're the one getting your panties in a wad. I don't care if playstation can do some things that xbox can't. I'm perfectly happy paying the meesley $50 a year for a great online service.

Oh and by the way, who cares about getting an alert when a friend wins a trophy. If you're going to be a sandy vagina when someone doesn't like your beloved PS3, then stay the **** out of the thread. Otherwise, I'll say what I want.

Way to contradict yourself, yet again. Pointing out ONE meesley thing out of that whole entire list, JUST to say something bad about it. You're pathetic. And, no, you didn't "just brought up the fact that Sony might start charging for some online services." Anyone who can read can see that you're doing nothing, but trying to talk about how much you think PS3 sucks.
Oh and BYE THA WAY, there is life outside of walls. Get one.

I don't think I could agree more with this statement... except it needs some expletives.

I don't take this as a Sony bashing thread. People are interested in this news, no matter what console they prefer.

It's funny how others agree with me Blaze, because they can actually read what other people are writing. I'll admit I don't like the PS3. I've played it, and I'm not impressed. you have the opposite opinion and good for you. This thread was to discuss the possibilty of charging for PSN whether it be for certain services or what. If you don't like what I have to say then don't bother coming into a thread I started about something you already know I don't like.

It's funny how you mention there is life outside of walls. Who's the one that keeps coming back into an online forum and arguing? I'm at work. I'm on a computer all day long, so from time to time, I'll get bored and hop on MB and see what's going on. The second I leave work, I don't sign onto MB again until the next day at work.

I have a life. I have a wife, I provide food for my family, a house, have plenty of animals to play with, enough friends to hang out with when I'm bored, a nice car to go cruise around in, plenty of things. Arguing with little ***** like yourself, is probably 1% of my life if that.

So continue on if you like, but nothing you can say will ever have any affect on me nor will I care.

I don't know what it is with members who come on this forum with a yellow V6 mustang. I didn't like the last one either. hmmmm.

I just love watching Blaze get the sand out of his vagina.

This was just a thread stating the news no bashing, until you, Blaze, came along. So 10 Playstation fanboy points to yourself.

The Xbox console is way easier to use, the set-up is much nicer, and to no avail the Xbox gets more expandable content given to it (look at Fallout 3, Oblivion, etc.).

Quit getting all angry about **** all the time. It's a game console. If you're ever going to have a future it better be as a Sony rep.

Ok...read my first post in this topic, and then read the one right below it. All I did was clarify what 00blkstanggt originally posted, because everyone was freaking out and thinking Sony was going to charge for PSN, which wasn't true. After I posted that, I get, "SONY IS A LIAR! [random feature #1] IS STUPID!"
Who's being immature here?
If, honestly, you want me to leave, I will. And we can all go on with our happy lives, and next time I'll just let you all worry about something that isn't even true. Just tell me now.

My post was the one after yours and nowhere in it did I say Sony is a liar or Sony is stupid. I use to like Sony, but after a lot of their crap started breaking on me, I said screw them and went with other companies. I never mentioned Sony starting to charge for their online service now. I said it might happen in the future and for certain features.

I did say you can't always believe what Sony tells you. Same goes for a lot other companies. I just don't like Sony. If you really think that Sony will NEVER charge for their online service, then good for you, but at some point they will see how much money they could make charging people to play online and will start charging. You seem worried that if Sony did start charging, then many fanboys would jump ship. If Microsoft can get millions of people to pay to play online, why wouldn't Sony cash in on that?

To close all this, why bother coming into a thread that I posted about Playstation? You know I don't like PS3 so you know there isn't really going to be anything positive in what I post for the most part. So just do me a favor, you play your PS3 and I'll enjoy my Xbox. Stop trying to be Mr. PS3 spokesman. Just cause you read it on the internet, doesn't make it all true. And just because someone says something now, doesn't mean they'll change their mind later.

Peace.

Nowhere in his first post did he EVER say that PSN was charging for their service, but only for certain features.

You, however, are the one who stated at the beginning of your first post, and I quote, "You would post this" lol.

I'm not going to argue with you, but sometimes you have to be wrong. It's life.

This still stands, as you haven't proven any of this wrong. But, either way, I'm leaving, and I won't answer your questions, nor will I respond to anything you just said. Except for this, this pisses me off the most.

If you don't have a PS3, and don't like the PS3, why bother posting news about it? Why bother even LOOKING UP news about it? I play my PS3 and you'll enjoy your Xbox? What kind of BS is that? PS3 news doesn't even affect your Xbox in ANY way. Shouldn't that statement be reversed? If no one sees by now that all you were trying to do was talk **** on PS3, then whatever. I don't care anymore, It's ******* video games. **** you, have a nice night. You are still a ******* d-bag. [/sandy vagina rant]
