I'm colorblind, can't join the Marines, but I respect that branch over any other, they have not sold out like the Army, and still keep their recruiting requirements strong, and I admire that. I'd love to be a Marine but something has other plans for me.
Not fond of the air force, don't really want to be in the Navy either, I've lived near water my whole life, don't want to do it for a living.
and I like the Army because it's a little more accessible for me, and a local university here has an Army ROTC program, so if I figure I can commission as a 2LT, I'll be okay, even though there are only about 5-10 jobs (can't even be a mechanic) I can do in the Army since I'm R/G colorblind. I grew up with all of the military stuff, going to air shows all the time, watching war movies, talking to my grandfathers, and reading constantly about military stuff. Always wanted to be Airborne or a similar form of Infantry, but I got a kick in the face when I found out I was colorblind (last year), I'll never get the chance to do any of that. I'll probably end up being put behind a desk, which I don't want, but I have to atleast try, you know.

My position name is AA Mechanic Technician. It really means that I am the senior mechanic for 3 different depts. I may not have to fix anything all week but, But I also run expanded metals machines, 7 of them which have to be loaded with the master coils then expanded into master coils. This is the wire you see on an air filter. I do all of that on my shift without any operator help.. (too dangerous for a manpower temp employee.) the steel and wire will cut you to no end.
I am also the primary mechanic/setup man for the injection molding dept. 7 machines here too. I do all the mold changes on my shift and I have operators (4 of them) to do the mundane stuff like assemble or runner grinding.. And I am the Expanded metal slitter operator for my shift. ( I slit the master coils into predetermined widths) which I have to set up for at least 250 different slit widths.. That is the overall height or width of the wire that goes into the air filter.. LOL I could go on and on, But I make decent money and I am very good at my job.. Been doing it for almost 30 years. My day at work is nonstop ***** to wall factory work. Sometimes I get a little stiff but most days are good.. My next life I will get an easy job. Or marry a rich girl.. LOL,,

looks like street slammed the door on someone. W00t. Nicely played.
I think we can stop giving him **** about his job now. It's never going to do anything but make this look like a hostile place to be.
Now the rest of that entity which is streetracer... well we gotta have a little fun hehehe
Just playin bro. Seriously, guys... enough ripping on members. Keep it friendly.

And Strtrcr...I happen to enjoy most of your posts. We obviously live in the same country...but in two totally different worlds. It's interesting to see life from a different aspect. So keep on doing what you do man..

The entire USAF is basically backing for aircraft missions. We send the officers out to do the killing and get shot at, us enlisted folk sit in the rear with the gear and the beer!
When i was looking to join i talked to all the branches. This was back in late 1995
Army - Promise any training you want, will not garauntee that will be your job. Plus they stalked me like a crazy Ex Girlfriend. Showing up to my house, calling my work, they wouldnt leave me alone. I Figured if they were so desperate for troops during a non wartime situation it must be a shitty place to work.
Navy - After i took the ASVAB the Navy decided i was good enough to talk to, especially since i scored a 98. They were so dead set on getting me into the nuclear propulsion systems they diddnt even want to let me consider anything else. Plus the navy girls are all Fat.
Marines - Man oh man. I walked into this place, there was this super roided out freak looking jarhead with muscles so big his shirt was about to rip, he was writing out a form. He diddnt even acknowlege me for a minuit, finally i cleared my throat to say "Hey asshat, im here" and je just stopped writing. He sat there for a full 10 second count, head turning beat red, veins popping out, and without even looking at me he literally SCREAMS at the paper on his desk "YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A MARINE BOY YOU READY FOR SOME KILLIN?".... I damn near **** myself, i took out of there like a bat outta hell, never talked to them again.
Coast Guard - Yeah... right...
Air-Force - Man, I walked in there, SSgt Miller the recruiter was just kicking back joking with another staff seargent, all casual and ****, just relaxing enjoying life. There were 2 HAWT chicks talking to another recruiter. 6 week bootcamp, GI Bill, and most important they could Garauntee me Telecommunications not only in training but garauntee that would be my job as well. Signed up, went to japan, had a riot.

sounds familiar. I got a 91 and then backed it up with a 98 my junior year on the ASVAB. Talk about getting stalked. I'd find those jokers at my house waiting for me to get home... freaky.
I kept telling them to go away and that I only took the test to see what I'd get. Later the Marine recruiter came to a palma rifle match I was in. He saw me shooting and promised up and down that with my test scores and weapon skills I'd be a Marine scout sniper in no time. Failed the hearing test by 5db in 1 ear. Not even my congressman would help.
They didn't want a pre-trained sniper with a photographic memory and a mean streak a mile wide and we were at war at the time (granted the war ended a few days later heheh... Saddam's Kuwait grab turned out an EPIC FAIL). I would have gladly served if I was allowed to kill one at a time.

Wow....lots of cool professions....interesting stuff. This is why having a place like this is so cool. Brings a lot of different people together.
I also see a trend....lots of hands-on, mechanical folks, definate military slant, and a bunch of technical folks. Toss in some college students, and that pretty much explains the group.
Me? I am a bit older then most of you, so my experience base is different.
I was active duty Navy for 4 years (Desert Storm Vet) and left as an LT. I was then in the IRR for about 4 years. Then, I joined the Army National Guard for about 4 years as a staff officer. Spent most of my time as an S-4 officer for an Arty BN.
I really wish I had been in the Coast Guard. Sure, make fun of it, but these guys are real sailors and I love the drug interdiction stuff.
After leaving the Navy, I went to work for a chemical company. I was a SWO and a EWOS in the Navy, so working for a specialty chemical company that specializes in industrial water treatment was a logical move. I was in sales with company #1 for about 6 years and my expertise become working with the food and beverage industry espcially dairy, brewing, soft drinks. Essentially, I show manufacturers how to protect their investments, reduce plant surchages, conform to regulations, protect their brand, and reduce water and energy use.
I bascially did this for about 12 years for two different companies moving through the ranks and into sales mgt.
Last year I moved into more of a strategic marketing position....I now train the sales force and develop programs for the field both in the US and globally.
I also run a childhood cancer organization that provides isolation housing to kids recovering from bone marrow transplants.
My biggest job of all is being a dad to my two daughters.

Alot of cool jobs out there; when working in one job for so lond it's nice to see what's out there.
After getting out of the Marines. I got a job at a local BEER wholeseller driving a truck delivering beer all day.
Greatest job in the world! Who doesn't love beer?
16 years later; I worked my way up the chain to a Sales Manager over 2 branches, with 130 guys and 2,600 accounts we service.
We sell everything other than AB products, Miller, Coors, Guinness, Corona, plus many others.
Not bad for JARHEAD!!!!

I have done most of everything in my 32 years of life. I finally settled into the gaming industry when I turned 21. I went to school for 2 weeks to learn how to deal black jack and went to work after. Now almost 12 years later, I know all the games (craps, black jack, roulette, pai gow poker, baccarat, and various others too)! While I have been asked to to take promotions and advance my career in the business I choose to stay where I am at. Right now my official title is dual rate supervisor... all that means is some days Im a dealer and others Im a floor supervisor (what most call a "pit boss") The dealing aspect is self expalnitory... the floor supervisor part.... well... All I do is track players play (average bets, amount of cash or credit spent ect.) and count the table cheques. I make it all work out to show the higher bean counters that nobody stole anyting. If WaterDR comes to play BJ and starts playing with a purple cheque ($500) and leaves with 3 purple cheques ($1500) I show that play on his rating, AND on my table "card" to show who takes what money and when. Most folks think that the guy standing behind the games is a "pit boss". We are like most other places with a chain of command. There is the dealer, then the floor supervisor, THEN the pit boss, then the all mighty shift manager. I have had numerous oppertunities to become a shift. I just have no desire to. That job is way to ploitical. You have to be a yes man and kiss anybody's *** thats got a pocket full of money (or big credit). There is a saying in the gaming indusrty, they say.... The closer you are to the top.... the closer you are to the door. I can pass on the extra pay for my dignity and some job security. One thing is for sure though, I will never be rich working like I do but my lil ol' 50k a year and the wifes pay make ends meet ok enough for me.
If any of you ever come to Tunica MS (Memphis TN area) come on down to the Grand Casino (AKA Harrah's) and hollah at cha boy... My name is Tim.... you will prolly find me on the craps table!
