What do you do for a living?

I decided not to hijack Slithers smack talk thread.

But anyways, JJtGiants was in there and mentioned what he did for a living. Of course, it is one of those vague things that isnt readily understandable by the masses other than "Does shit in government"

I have a lot of friends with those jobs, myself included, where people ask you what you do for a living and you end up with that blank lookin wondering "How the hell do i explain this with any accuracy?"

So. Fess. up. What do you do? And not only what do you do, what the hell does that mean?

Myself,

Switching Maintenance Network Analyzt III

What do i do... well... i work on phones... but on a pretty deep level

I work in a national operations center, kind of a nationwide HQ for my companys repair center. I work on issues all across the united states. Our market is not "residential", rather than small to large business.

I work on any telephony issue. .. Static on lines... Cant call certian areas... cant call international... cant be called from certain areas.. tracking harassing and threatening calls.. q931 protocol issues, SS7 network troubles, Caller ID, caller name, any type of regular features like forwarding, voicemail, 3way calling, etc, etc. And now im getting into VOIP troubles like IP managed trunks and stuff. And i do all this on the major Class 5 switching platforms from Nortel, Lucent, and Siemans, as well as voip systems like Sonus soft switches.

but i really hardly ever work on old analog copper lines, so saying i work on phones really isnt accurate, but it makes the most sence.

lol...

Anyone else?

HokieStang00 01-22-2008 04:40 PM

Work for a general contractor...building in general. I've done everything imaginable to help put together a house. From the plumbing to electrical to all the major construction. I'm working on my Bachelors degree.. hoping to finish school and become an accountant. These past few years of work have scared me away from wanting to do physical work for the next 30+ years...

I almost got one in Wanye Gretski's backyard but then his wife had an issue with some sideline betting! I did hit up his main man Jovanoski for a good sized set though. :D

you mean you dont want me to post in other threads? lol...okay for the record:

i'm not a bounty hunter... its the same job description but i get my check from the government..i hunt fugitives...i wear a suit...i am paid to fly anywhere i can prove the bad guy is...any friendly country....it is an awesome job......now i'll say once more for the record...

why i dont say what it is it clearly by name:

anyone remember mark furman...the lead guy on the oj simpson case? i think about him all the time...not just here but in my personal life..in bars...everywhere...i can say i have been on tv...i have been in high profile cases....anyway, marc furman was the guy who let oj simpson go free because he painted himself as the straight arrow guy on the prosecuting stand and then his old conversations surfaced...and his use of the n-word sank him and ultimately his case...therefore i am very careful not to name my agency...because i dont want to represent them in any way by the things i say here or anywhere...what i say is just me...not an entire government agency...get it?...anyway...thats what i do... when you see a murder case in the papers and the killer is at large...i'm around somewhere...thats it...thats what i do...oh wow...this would be a perfect chance for a speech i've been dying to give:

Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
