Default Transmission Problem??

so today....i was driving my car around town...and noticed that everytime i switch from 1st to 2nd theres a huge clunk.....so this is what i do....after i get up to speed in 1st i push the clutch and let off gas and put it into neutral....put it half way into second (clunking sound happens here) and then all the way to second, let out the clutch.....also...sometimes itll pop second outta gear after the clutch is out

could the syncros (sp?) be bad?? sometimes it happens in 2nd-3rd but it always happens in 1st-2nd....any ideas on this?

if you have the warranty on the car, i would take it in. i actually think ford has a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on that. couldnt hurt if you still have the warranty, its a free check out.

The 3650 got worse as the years progressed and I know there is a TSB as mentioned above. Take it in and I believe they rebuild it if you bitch at em long enough. Bring the bulliten with you so they cant act stupid because they will probably try to.

My car is going in Monday for the same thing

along with a bad ball joint and a leaking passenger side headlight.

I like to save up my warranty problems so they only have my car for a day or two

I have the same problem with my 94 Mustang GT. Its a T-5 but I was told by a Master Machanic that it is the 1st and 2nd gear synchronizer. I find that double clutching helps a little... just till you take it in and get it rebuilt! Its free for u... its gonna cost me an arm and leg.

You could always just drop a new tranny in there....might be about the same costwise. Plus if first and 2nd are worn down I bet 4th and 5th arent far behind.

Question

I bet you are right , with my luck i wouldn't be suprised. Would it be cheaper to have a rebuilt one put in or a new one?
