Default problem with the car

I did not know where else to put this but I was driving my car today and I would press the brakes and right before it would come to a complete stop it would act like it jumped forward or skipped on the brakes and then would completely stop with no problem. It is just right before it comes to a stop that it jumps.Does anyone know what could cause this is it the trans or is it the brakes?

Is an automatic or manual? If it's an auto it could be possible, unlikely though, that i could be the trans downshifting. Do the RPMs jump or anything? The brakes could be warped or have an uneven buildup of material.

well it does not happen every single time just most of the time. It doesn't really matter how hard I press the breaks it will still skip. Thanks for all the help guys.

if you catch the revs jumping, then its the ECU program. Ford has released a fix for it, they flashed mine with it about 6 mos. ago. The ECU jumps the revs upon moderate to hard braking so as to assist the brake boost. On an auto, this would also be felt as a jolt, or lurch, as the tranny is always engaged, even when stopping.
Mine used to stall out under hard braking, and when it didn't stall, it would almost quit, then rev back up. Wasn't a huge issue for me, cuz I have a stick.
Could also be the tranny. Whens the last time it was serviced? bad tranny fluid and a dirty filter can cause pressure jumps that could also cause the vehicle to lurch.

it has not been 3000 miles but it is close and I will probably get the oil changed in the next week so hopefully that will fix it.
