So the other day it was driving just fine. Get to where I'm going. Park, turn it off look around at the cars. Ok time to leave. Gte in turn it on. Attempt to put in reverse. No go. Try to put it in 1st to pull out. That I can do. Then I get curious. And I try to cycle through the gears, Yes the car is running. I can go into 1st, 3rd and 5th. No 2nd, 4th or R. Synchro possibly.

Yes the clutch is all the way down. Tips? Solutions or just tell me to take it to a tranny shop and pay....

 

Drain the fluid and check for damaged pieces. How much work can you do yourself? Can you pull it out? Good Luck!

 

God trannys are a pain in the ***! I cant do anymore than unscrew some **** and look at it.

 

do you have an aftermarket short shifter??

 

no. completely stock clutch kit, shifter and tranny

 

sounds like y ou bent a shift fork.

pull your tranny and get it to a tranny repair shop. Probably cost 200-500 bucks to get it fixed.

 

but the fork travels the same distance for every gear so wouldnt he have a problem with the shifter or something in the tranny??? i mean if the fork is workin fine for 1, 3, and 5 there shouldnt be a problem with 2, 4 and R

Did you try putting it in neutral and letting the clutch out for a few secs, then pressing the clutch back in and going into reverse. Because sometimes the gears just don't line up when you stop the motor before hand. Happens to me sometimes and I just do that.

 

Nothing works. Its fucked....DAMMIT!!!!!

Definitely a shift fork. If you can get into 1, 3, and 5th, then somewhere along the line your shift forks are bent.

Take this as a kind of a good thing. You might as well put some stronger shift forks in there if you are planning on throwing any extra power at the car.

 

Round-about-how much to fix? Still 300-500?

 

sounds like a problem i had. all of a sudden i lost 3rd and 4th gear. i took it to get fixed and refurbished. turnes out the shift forks were shot as well as my synchros. i had the guy do a whole rebuild on my tranny. i figured i'm gonna be beating on it for a while, and it was already out, so why not. that, plus i put in a spec 2 clutch and aluminum flywheel cost me about $2200.

 

I'm going through a NASTY divorce right now. So money is defenitely an issue. So the minimum is what I'm looking at. Otherwise I would go ahead and get my new clutch kit/shifter I've been looking at.

 

So yeah.....um. It fixed itself.

Yeah. I hit 135 on the interstate slowed down to turn around. Started the 3 point turn. Realized I couldnt reverse got pissed almost broke my hand on the steering wheel. Out of instinct tryed to put it into Reverse. It went then I started going backwards!

All my gears are back for now.....fingers crossed

 

Not sure what year car you have but I'd be willing to bet you have a T45, its not synchronized in reverse, and the forks.. yeah they suck, and will break when abused.

 

don't bother repairing it. Just get another. You can usually find one for less than 500 bucks on craigslist or one of the forums. If you need extra help see if the boys in the motor pool can pull it apart and mess with it.

 

TR-3650 actually. But I'm gonna keep looking for a refurbed one for now. But till then. Let the fun RE-begin

 

Did you try letting the clutch out with the motor running in N for a few secs before selecting R? I didn't see if you tried this or not. I have to do this like a said one or two times sometimes to get into R.

 

Yeah I tried EVERYTHING! Nothing worked. Except for excesive speed.......nice
