Default 01 GT trans question

I picked up an 01 GT. Is there anyway to tell if its got the T45 or the 3650 without putting the car in the air. If it does have the T45 can I upgrade to the 11" clutch. I'm gonna replace the flywheel anyway because the clutch is smoked. Any help would be great.

rpms in 5th gear is an easy was the 3650 has a different overdrive ratio. Also if it has the different water pump and you can just look under the car with a jack stand as the 3650 has the bell housing as part of the tranny and is not removable.

Look at the door tag. For the tranny code, if it says K, it's a TR3650.

here's a easy way.... if there's a drain plug on the transmission pointing downward then it's a 3650. If it points to the side it's a t45.

Thanks for all the help. It has the T45 in it. Does anybody now what I would need to convert to a 3650? I dont know how much different this car is to my 2004.

Pretty much nothing is different. To change trannies, just swap them. Simple as that. The major difference between trans is that the TR3650 has a integrated bellhousing, while the T45 has the bellhousing separate.

Nope, both trannies are the same length.

TR-3650 is a stronger unit and reverse is synchronized which is nice. I like it much more than any T45 I have ever driven.

That upgrade isn't worth it. You get a trans that's slightly better but more of a bitch to work w/ (thanks to the integrated bellhousing). If you really need to upgrade, get a TKO.

T5 hasn't been used since the fox body cars it was replaced by the T45 then by the 3650. If you need a new tranny and don't have alot of cash to spare a nice used 3650 is where its at. I have seen them go as low as $300 out of cars that got TKO or T56 swaps done in them.

Actually, T5s were used until 96 when it was replaced by the T45.

And your buddy has a T45. As far as what trans to go w/, stick w/ a T45 or TR3650. For purpose of maintenance, I'd go w/ the T45 since the bellhousing is detachable.

I'm sorry you are correct, they were used in the 94-95 302 cars.
