if you have the money go with an 03-04 cobra the mach is the same engine without the supercharger both really nice cars it all depends what you want the cobra has a lot of power i think about 390 or so im not sure where you can get the specs. i would be very happy with either

the 03 cobra is MUCH faster and has a forged bottom end that'll hold easily 700hp. The mach1 is using cast pistons and lighter rods so it won't hold up to near the power the cobra will.

The only big diff other than those bits is the 6 speed on the cobra (not terribly special but nice) and the independant rear on the cobra which is always in danger of breaking. I'd take the mach1 since it comes with a live axle and insurance is way cheaper most places.

If money for insurance weren't an issue... I'd take the cobra way way way way before the mach.

oh god, not this debate again! ha ha ha....this kind of thread always turns out exactly like this.

1. Get an 03/04 Cobra if possible. Bad azz machine, no doubt about it. If that's not possible.......

2. 03/04 mach 1 vs 01 Cobra....we'll go round and round about which car is better.

There is a lot of bad info regarding mach 1's.....The engine is not just like an 03/04 Cobra engine minus the supercharger. The 5 speed mach does have a forged crank, but that's it for internals....while the auto mach doesn't have a forged crank.

"Mach 1 is not the same as what came in the '96-98 Cobras (but it is the same engine used in the new Marauder). The cylinder heads are a new high-flow design (shared with the '03 Cobra), and the cams are different--all in the name of improved mid-range torque. On the intake side, Team Mustang picked 5.4 Navigator cams; on the exhaust, high-performance bumpsticks were specified, though we have no information on their specs just yet. There's more compression than before (10.0:1 versus 9.85). New exhaust manifolds were created and are port-matched to the heads. The mufflers have chrome tips and are tuned for a unique sound.

Air enters the 57mm twin-throttle body from both the Shaker hood and the usual fenderwell-mounted inlet. The aluminum intake, while similar in appearance to that of the '99/'01 Cobra, is unique, too"

I found an 03 Mach1 for sale, it is a lot cheaper than the cobra 03/04 but is it worth it? is the mach1 motor just as good(worth it) to mod as the cobras? im still finding things out about each car.

the real difference is power handling on the motors. The mach motor is 10:1 compression so it's not totally blower friendly and since the pistons are cast you need to be cautious of your tune when using things like nitrous moreso than with forged pistons and rods that the 03/04 snakes came with.

300rwhp is no trick from a mach1 and that's plenty fast for most people. I'd take the mach just because it has a live axle. The IRS isn't strong enough for constant beating on with a blower motor IMHO.

Well, what kind of power are you looking for? Yeah, you can put a blower on the mach, or you can go the N/A route.....with just the mods in my sig my mach put down 304rwhp and 330rwtq.....Add 4:10 gears and long tube headers and you'd be freaking flying. If you want a ton of info about mach 1's go to www.mach1registry.com and they have a dyno/drag racing section where people post power/1/4 time

340 tq is really nice. That's a big shove in the back and 300+rwhp is no slouch. I gotta have you take me for a ride. You down for a try on thursday? I'm working from home thursday so it'll be easier to not get jacked into a server room.

The car scoots along pretty good. I need some suspension mods and sticky tires so it all gets to the ground....but I need get used to the new house payment before doing any other mods.

Yeah, lets shoot for Thursday at around 5:30. Oh when I stopped by the other day some dude in a black vette drove by and threw a couple of revs, then a couple of kids in like a 95 GT with exhaust started throwing some revs. ha ha ha....it was pretty funny.

well the cobras are a lot more expensive. I was thinking of dropping a supercharger in the mach1 a little later, but I dont plan on modding it for awhile.

so from what im hearing, the cobra IS worth the price difference?

The cobra is most definately worth the price difference. I drove one for a little while and it was my dreamcar..When your driving it you pretty much know that yours is better than any other mustang around and you pretty much own the road with 390rwhp. I felt like I was driving a supercar. In the mach.....youll have stockish evo's and sti's on your tail all day.

I would do some very bad things to have one of those cars....

I would try to drive both of them and you'll see the difference.....going from stock GT to a Stock mach 1 is a big difference and going from a mach to an 03/04 cobra is even a bigger difference. Just pick whatever car you like and can afford and you'll be happy.

well I think going from a stock V6 to a stock Mach1 is going to be a helluva big difference

I cant afford a cobra at the moment, its twice the price of the mach1's im lookin at.

looks like you've answered your question. Mach1 it is. If you get a hardon for more power later, then add more later with a blower or nitrous.

ok heres the deal now, ive found some cobras I CAN afford but they are the 99-02 models, now to my understanding the 03/04 models come with a supercharger? and what is the difference in the SVT cobra and the normal one?

so it comes down to :

03-04 Mach1 or 99-02 Cobra SVT

Ah, here we go with the 01 Cobra vs Mach 1 debate.....First off the 99 Cobra was junk. Someone else can get into the details of the 99 Cobra, but they were a huge disappointment.....and they didn't make an 02 Cobra in the US.

The 01 Cobra and Mach 1 are pretty damn close in performance. The 01 Cobra advertises more HP than the mach, but I think the mach's have more torque. The mach has better low end power, which leads it to run a little better 1/4 time (stock vs stock), but the 01 Cobra is a little better up top. The 01 Cobra has the IRS like the 03/04 Cobras. It just depends on what you want, I personally would go with the mach 1 because you probably can find one with less miles on it. But you can't really go wrong with either car.

If your choice is between a 99 or 01 cobra and the Mach I would take the Mach hand's down.
