Yeah I'm thinking the same thing. If its going to lean an inch then theres a good chance of belt slip and I don't want that when I'm expecting to be putting down more than 600rwhp.

Well one thing that I am thinking about now is going with a big bore KB for the 4.6, but throw it onto the 5.4 with adapter plates. Sure you could go with the lightning version, but doesn't the lightning motor create a lot of clearance issues in a mustang?
Hmm... maybe KB could do a 5.4 swap specific lower manifold......

Doesn't Kenne Bell make a kit for a 5.4? I've seen a couple people on the corral put a Kenne Bell on the 5.4. That shouldn't be much of a problem even they dont make a kit because of the spacers available. Sucks that all the Vortech and ATI kits for the 5.4 are driver side intake and the bracket sits real high. Most of the pics that I have seen on various forums with the lightning blower, people have cut holes in their hood plus they were already at least a 4in cowl.

Making the bracket is fairly easy. I'm sure we can get one made. I'll ask HPS to make em.... they do that sort of stuff as a core competency anyway.

It's gunna lean side to side an inch, not front-back. It's in plane with how it's supposed to be. Belt slip won't be a worry over and above any normal situation. I'd consider the cut and weld option very much a good one if done properly and the welding is top notch.
Fabbing the bracket will be easier for most because they don't have any bend...they're just a plate and some mounting standoffs. If you can use 4 bolts... I would. You may have to mount a pulley to the bracket as well to keep belt tension up on the blower pulley. Still, NOT HARD.
I'm trying to get hold of a guy that I've seen who did it. I'm hoping he used a method other than cutting and welding the front cover. We'll see.

We were talking about this at work today. We are going to cut the tops off both timing covers and weld them back then have them plotted in CAD and then CNCed. Should create some nice pieces and not cause the bracket to lean.
I will probably be making several of these using a CNC. I'll post pictures of the prototype soon.

They do make a kit for the 5.4, but the thing that worries me is it is for the truck, where hood clearance isn't really much of a big deal for them. It would be nice if they had a kenne bell that would fit the 5.4 and clear a cobra R hood, but I know that a cobra R hood is already necessary for a big bore 2.6 setup. Planning on using a cowl hood at this point, but don't wanna have to cut a hole in THAT too...

How about replacing the lightning blower head unit with a 03 cobra head unit or a KB? if they have the same bolt pattern it may work. They're both shorter than the lightning unit and have side intake instead of top intake saving you 4" of hood height.

Little update on my end
This thing is a blast to drive, even though I cant safely go WOT. Its funny, slow down to 10mph in 3rd(traintracks, wahtever) then off idle give it 1/10th throttle at 900 rpms and the damn thing just excellerats like you wouldnt beleave! I just cant get over how the "feel" of it is. Cant wait to get it to a dyno to get tuned so I can do some WOT pulls!
Clutch issue is resolved, Im blaming it on a faulty spec PP as it just never would dissengage fully. Ended up going with a king cobra PP and mcloud disk. Love it, pretty soft pedal feel, no chatter and isnt a ful on/off dissengage.
R3d, Ive been thinking about the 03 cobra on the 5.4, to me that makes perfect sence from a fitment standpoint ASSuming it will bolt right up. Even if not, I cant see why a short adapter shouldnt work and still be shorter. I actually work at Eaton and will be trying to get some info and possibly a free eaton to try out. Ill keep you posted

The Cobra blower wont bolt up, I had this thought way back when I could get an Eaton for free. I think the best bet would be the Lightning Whipple blower. Its fed from the back not the top and should provide alot more clearance. I think I posted a pic of te setup somewhere in this thread.

How far is it off from fitting? I know they make an adapter to put it onto a 2v 4.6

using a 03 cobra top side on adapter plates would be less than perfect but still bodacious on power. I'd do it. Even if it's just an adapter for the lightning lowerr and the 03 cobra blower that's still better than nothing.
Is there a chance you can get us and engineering sample case with snout?

If I can get anything it will be a production unit. Things are not like they used to be, used to could get about any part by simply asking, now its a bunch of red tape, but thats to be expected I guess. Ill keep you updated if I can even get anything.

This is the kinda posts that starts to seal the deal for me putting in a 5.4 if its that crazy n/a i can only imagine with 14 pounds of intercooled boost
I have centerforce dual friction clutch its more a off and on clutch wish i had more play in it at the track its being a little tricky to preload the clutch on launch without moving the vehicle maybe i just need a little more work on the drivers side but it does seem a little tricky although its np to race or drive daily.
Although i am still waiting on the intake dyno numbers....How hard would it be for an exhaust shop to make my bbk long tubes work?? Any idea? I know they have to be cut and such just wondering if its going to take a rocket scientist or just a decent custom exhaust guy?

Yea, I cant wait to get it tuned. Gonna do 2 na tunes and one nitrous tune. One for 93, one for unleadd 100 mix and one for nitrous with standalone fuel system with racegas. While I woudl prefer a turbo I am seriously considering a eaton on top OR making my own intake pretty much like the RR
Thats odd about your centerforce, all mine have been very to modulate the clutch. Hey, there all diff though right?

Just curious, anyone here ever ran accross a PI intake thats been cut apart? Id like to see what the insides look like, to possibly modify one to make it a short runner. Or if anyone here has a spare Ill take it
If its possible(may require epoxy or plastic welding to get it back together) to make a short runner out of the stocker Ill install it after modified and IF it works and makes power Ill modify mine and send it to them free. I think a short runner stocker would be a kickass setup on a 5.4 to retain the stock look. Obviously it (can) flow plenty of air as seen on some applications, but we all know in stock LONG runner form its not that great for a 5.4, even a stock 5.4
Anyone?????

Cut yours and if it works i will send you mine to fab up for me hahaha. just kiddin but interesting idea wonder if it will work too.
Im just waiting for the new intake myself rather then junk yard wars one up. However that would be a bunch cheaper if it works.

I know it CAN work, however not sure how tough it will be to do it. Im sure the 5.4 hardballer will work better no doubt, but those on a budget should benifit greatly with a cut stocker and a 5.4. I would imagine it should roughly match what MM&FF got out of the RR, perhaps not in peak but in avg. Just speculation however.

On the corral there was someone that said that the flow tech's would fit with minor banging on the one tube to clear the stearing column. That's what I ended up buying. I still haven't dropped it in yet so I'm not sure how true yet that is. Passenger side was suppose to be fine. If all fails I will just get one of the primaries to go around the column. My friend had to do that with his 351W swap.

ohh... and i wished i could put like a Twin Screw on mine... would be pretty easy... but i guess centri wont be that hard ill just have to find someone in the states who can fab me a bracket...
I need a front timing cover from what year 5.4 F-150? like a 98-03?
And need to get that damn tensioner... i need a new one i want it to be very strong to uphold the tension when i supercharge... i want like a 700HP streeet car.... since it not daily driven... im not worried about it becoming a Pain to drive daily.. and i can always turn boost down when on the street...

It's a convoluted mess below the top 4". You can see a pretty decent slice on this pic from HPS's site:
The air comes in from the upper plenum down the shaft into a tiny little common plenum and then into those nice long runners. You have plenty of room to chop the bastard down just below the plane of the head/intake mating surface and make a much larger plenum below it you could get really great results... still have the width issue to deal with though. Realistically any chopped intake would have to fit without plates to take advantage of the increased high rpm flow. Otherwise it's still corked. I'd love to see one done... I think with the thin wall plastic it'd flow like a m-er f-er and the fitment should be spot on.
Shakin:
I have a timing cover and tensioner waiting for someone to own it. I have an identical one on my car.
All:
What if we see about getting a passenger side flowtech longtube and a driver side BBK longtube and trying a bolt-up test? Is there anyone but me ready for the labor? I could really use any help you guys can right now.
And the potentially bad news. I found a lot of chocolate milk looking oil in my oil air separator yesterday. There's also at least a minor coolant leak up top, possibly 2 or 3. The RR adapter plates have been tough to get fitted just right for a few people and my 4.6L intake being a pre-production unit it's bolt holes were a little loose, so there's a little slop there I have to seal up. To boot, my dipstick isn't long enough to read any oil so I have to crawl under the car this week and pull an oil cooler line to see if there's water in my oil. If so... looks like the motor is coming out. If not, no biggie. In the meantime I'm not driving it till at least next weekend when I can pull the intake. Grrrrr.
On the upside, my coolant degass tank is full of bright shiny green liquid without a hint of oil in it. I'm doubtful that there's a popped HG but never can be too careful.
