People thought that about Hitler because one of the first things Hitler did was to control the media and information. He also unified the German people by creating an external threat to their beliefs and way of life. He gave the german people a common enemy to focus all of the fear and hatred on while he forged and solidified an evil, war mongering empire. His solution, known as "The Final Solution", caused the near genocide of the jewish population from Europe and sent millions to their deaths.
Using Hitler as an example is a very poor chose when referring to the current world political state.

We live in a volitile, open society, its easy to put the blame on all of our problems with just one part of it.
