how hard is it to install a new shifter for the 2005 v6 manual?

can i do it with a simple socket kit/screwdrivers and such?

how long would it take?

 

I dont know about the 2005's but it should be fairly similar to the 2000 V6 and yea you can do it yourself. It takes maybe an hour at most. The hardest part was getting the stock shifter broke loose because the sealant was stuck pretty good. Pretty much just a socket set for tools, maybe a hammer to pound the stock shifter off, and you need some silicon to reseal it. Not to hard, plus there's directions and if you have any problems u can just ask on the forum.

The 05 is different from the earlier models it has direct linkage instead of remote linkage but it is still a pretty easy task. Just remove and replace. Just make sure to use the sealant when you are done

 

where do i get the proper sealant...does it come in a kit with the new shifter?

 

Proper sealant is just some RTV sealant. You can get it at any hardware store. Its basically just Silicon sealant.

 

Or I believe MT sells some sort of gasket thingy so you don't have to worry about getting sealant in the tranny. If MT doesn't have it I've seen it elsewhere.

It helps eliminate noise (new shifters let more noise through) and also eliminates the need to use silicon sealant. A lot easier if you want to spend an extra $5-10 or whatever.

My shifter lets more noise through especially in fifth gear

 

Isn't that a good thing to some of us though? Or is it excessive?

 

i dont think that the gasket that we sell fits the 05...
