i have a 1998 mustang v6 automatic. i want to convert it to stick shift what are some ideas or info that i should know. what trans would i need? can i put a 5 speed gt trans on it? what is my best bet?

 

It'll be pretty costly. I don't think the GT trannies will work with the V6 engine. I would take it to a mechanic and get a quote. Honestly, your best bet is to just put it in "D" and enjoy it.

 

yes, but some of us like manual. i was wondering the entire cost too, from getting a manual V6 tranny from a donor and swapping it in. i estimate around 2000 - 3000 bucks. but that is just guesstimation.

 

Leonide, I think for a good tranny swap and everything done right, your pretty close- about 2-3K

 

It's closer to $1500, a lot of people have done it, not really much of a pita. GTs have the same manuals trannies are V6s, T-5, so I'd think you could put a 5spd from a GT into a v6.

 

yeah what he said maybe try to find a semi wrecked manual 6er and start picking parts off. How much of a difference would it make on an otherwise stock car, to do nothing else but switch the trans. A few tenths maybe? Fun factor would rise like 10000%
