Honestly, with 148,xxx I'd recommend saving your money. There's really no telling how the car was treated over the last 10+ years.

Save your money until you can do a motor swap to a beefed up 3.8 or 4.2 if you want to stick with the six. http://rpm-mustangs.com/home.php

If you prefer to just mod.

Upgrade to an 8.8" rear end with some 4.10 gears.
Tune the car, reset the speedo for the gears.

CAI's really don't give the 3.8's any significant gain (although they do look nice.)

Honestly, with that many miles I would look into getting a 99-04 V6 engine. They have 40hp more than your 96 engine and they respond to mods a lot better.

Umm $3,000 for 3.8L motors no thanks. I would get a used motor from a online source or local junkyard.

Thats for a stock 99-04 3.8L v6 screw that. The stock v6 motors are tuff they are said to be good till the 450rwhp rang. If i was you get one locally from a junkyard or salvage place and do the split port motor swap (99-04 motors are called split port).

There is minor wiring that has to be changed and some connectors but not bad. Can be done with some freinds over a weekend or 2.

Actually the stock V6 motors are good till around 325-350rwhp. After that point, if you haven't upgraded the pistons and rods with forged ones you're running on hopes and prayers.
