Default New Stang Problems

Hey guys, I'm new on here, been browsing Mustang forums since last week and decided I'd post here. I got my Silver 2000 Mustang V6 (5-speed) on the 4th and I've been loving it! Couple of problems that have been bothering me though and I was wondering if these were common.

First off, something related to the a/c is making a whistling noise every once in a while. I looked above the gas pedals and when the switch on the console is moved I can see a little part turning but it's like it doesn't close all the way and start's whistling, I know it's this part because I wiggled it and it affected the noise. I've been solving the problem temporarily by turning on and off the a/c or cranking up the stereo

Next was the gas tank, after I registered it I went to put in it's first tank of gas, so I pull up pick the gas pop in the nozzle and start fueling when after about 1 second, the pump stops as though it is full. I was refueling at about a half tank and I know it wasn't full but I still couldn't keep fueling. Luckily I only needed about 5 gallons, so I just had to keep squeezing the thing on the nozzle until I finally got how much I wanted.

Other than that, the only thing this car really needs is some new headlights and I'm looking at ordering some smoked ones on EBay with the HID's in it. Also looking into possible mods as I've got about $1k to work with right now. I'd really like to go the performance route first with CAI, chip, exhaust, or suspension, but I also liked the 18" Black Bullitts I saw and may just save for those, what do you guys think? Thanks!

Well...I really have no clue about your problems, I've got a 02...I haven't had a problem with it yet.

As for the gas thing, have you refueled yet? It could've just been the pump =x

Now performance wise....

Id go with a catback dual exhaust... (the brand really depends on you, we have exhaust vid clips around here ect.) Many people say the flowmasters sound ricey after high rpms...so... i dunno.

Tuner... SCT XCal/Livewire or a Diablo is what alot of people around here go with...

CAI, many guys will say a CAI doesn't do much for a 6... I'd recommend just strapping on a K&N filter...

Suspension...theres quite a few good brands...

For the most part, I'd probably go with an exhaust first, gears next with TLOCK so you won't have a peg leg anymore...,and then tuner/suspension.. depending on what you want.... v6s I beleive have a fairly stiff suspension..so idk.

The headlights...if you are having issues seeing, just grab some halogens.. if you want the pretty headlights... then thats up to you..

Guys around here will say Bullitts are overused ect, but yea, they still look nice..

My stang doesn't have much done to it atm, but I am going performance first, as far as I can before I have to drop a few thousand dollars on something big

But I'm basically heading towards exhaust/gears, tlock/tuner/suspension/rims and tires

And somewhere in there, a stereo..I'm just basically doing the things I want done first..and then going.

Theres a load of things to do for performance, but a grand won't get you too far..you can cover the exhaust, and the gears & tlock probably..

Alright, well when I got this car it had a pretty nice aftermarket stereo in it so I'm pretty satisfied with it, haha.

One thing though is I was also looking at going a gear and TLOK switch, but any work like that I'd want to do myself with the help of my dad who was a mechanic, but he says that the transmission would be a big pain. Oh and the other thing was the big debate over 3.73's and 4.10's for a stick, what do you guys think about that?

About the refueling I've refueled twice and it's done the same thing both times.

As for the exhaust, I'm not sure about that, I'm still learning about the car, but what appealed to me so far was something like changing the headers to the long tube and then using and off-road H for a true dual, or something like that, lol.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Gears and tlock can be a bit difficult yea..and I think alot of guys will say 4.10s..

If you're going to swap out the headers and do the exhaust..be prepared to watch that grand disappear fairly quickly... I'm waiting on headers, just doing the exhaust first, and another thing with the dual.. idk if you want the tips coming out..but you might want to change your rear fascia, or cut the bumper so they'll fit...mine will be mandrel bent..so i won't have that problem...

There are plenty of more experienced guys around here that will probably be responding to this....i'm just trying to help you with a rough idea..

The bullits are going to just slow you down. IF your going to get a chip, get gears+posi too.

in refrence to the gas station incident. I've had that happen to me a few times, i assume its some gas spashing back up at triggering the nossle to turn off. I ususally just pull the handle out 1-2" and it works fine

for the first one ignore that flows are good.

for the second one if you going to just strap on the filter take out the silencer. its the rubber thing covering the left part of the filter near fender. From experience i did that didnt do much for me. so i just got the 74 buck CAI from americanmuscle.com. its also on ebay for 40 buck if u want a link i can provide one.

I have a K&N... it doesn't do anything but I like to think it does.

Cheddar: I'm not bashing flows man, I'm just saying its what other people say/think... I don't have a problem with flows.. its a good exhaust for the price of it.. =p

And the other part: If you can get ahold of a intake thats that cheap...do that...filters will run you like $60 ...atleast around here they do.

either throw the grand into a nitrous system or save for a super or turbo charger. You need to go big or go home. unless you don't plan on racing. Suspension work can seriously help too (try asking r3dn3ck he's a suspension expert)

I agree with SnTBakosFinest. I went with long tube headers, H-pipe, and flowmasters cat-back exhaust. It cost me little over a grand with installation. I love the sound and performance I got from them. I did that first and then updated the suspension and brakes. Hope everything goes well and add some pics and we can see what you decided.
