Cool v-6 mods

Hello, I'm actually in the process of buying a 2000 v-6  should be home wensday or so. Anyway, long story short. I"m a chick and I know as much as any other (normal) girl does about cars...NOTHING! lol. But, I'm hoping to learn! I did want a GT, but with my speeding ticket track record... let's just say my bank account and my car ins company weren't quite seeing eye to eye. Anyway, I was wondering what some simple and cheap mods would be just give my baby a bit more grrrrr. I dont' really care to make him look/sound like something special. I just care about what he feels like driving.

oh, and i'm not quite ur normal chick... I actually can't drive automatic... so he's a 5 spd, I don't know if that makes a diff in what i can and can't do... i know that means I can't add electric start(sucks for me on those cold winter days... still have to stumble half asleep out the door to warm him up). Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appricated.

Well 3.73 gears and a better flowing exhaust are a good start. The only way your gonna experience gt power is if you just buy a blower. Then you'll be right with them ever step of the way.

mach 1 grill delete, chin spoiler, and bumper inserts are a good place to start - they'll separate you from the numerous stock v-6's out there being driven by old people who never get into 3rd gear.

and the heavier mods:
rims/tires
dual exhaust
lowering springs
window tint
and I hear gears or underdrive pullies do a lot for performance

also, its interesting how u refer to ur car as a "he" and guys refer to their cars as "she's". i guess we would all have sex with our cars if we could

I wonder what a gay guy would call his car....

but for mods...do at least 4.10 gears...that will wake up your car alot, also a nice exhaust system would not add too much performance but will give you something to listen to,help seperate you from the old folks driving the same car and help you know the car is on . Then save, save, and save for a supercharger...just my opinion...

btw, what did you get the speeding tickets in anyways...

Ok so as I said... I dont know anything... what is the diff between 3.73 and 4.10 gears? and what exactly do they do? I could look it up but i've noticed any explainations aren't explained for the cariliterate like me! lol.

Milos and Mustangvsix, u don't have to feel like ****. At least you know what ur talking about when it comes to cars... I always have to look things up... lol... and even though I have a 5 spd... I still park like a girl... lol... so if ur ever on long island and u see a green v-6 parked at an angle in the lot u'll know i'm there!(at least I stay in the lines though) lol... I drive much better than I park... prob cuz I have no patience... that's prob also why I can't park... Oh, and my speeding tickets were all in a '93 corolla(with a missing hubcap...)lololol... my william may be old and may have never been ment to drive anywhere over 60, but I could get him at like 90... anything over I think he prob would have exploded...

The more complicated answer is multiply the ratio number by the engine torque...or in simpler terms they give you low end torque qhich is good for getting off the line faster, but they ultimately lower your top end speed... Good mod that costs about 300-350 after installation...

With your Manual u can also get a short shifter, if you do i'd look at MGW www.MGWltd.com...

Aside from that a Cold Air Intake will give the engine bay a deeper tone and will free up a lil hp. It'll also help the gas mileage
http://www.mustangtuning.com/muv6coairins.html

Finally an exhaust I have a Spintech Dual Side Exhaust that was $530 w/out installation, Flowmasters are about 400 or so, but i wouldn't recommend them, most V6's i know that have them don't like them. Also Magna Flows sound nice good too... U can find clips to other exhaust setups in my sig...the Mustang Exhaust Link...

Finally, if you want a better ride quality and if you have a good chunk of change to spend Lowering springs and Rims... If you go with springs I'd recommend H&R highly http://www.mustangtuning.com/h-r-spo...ngs-96-04.html, I love mine, and with rims, you can look at the list of rims Mting has for sale...

Where on Long Island? One of my roomates is from Suffux, and the other is from Queens...

I was def thinking lowering the car...I spend my life going on and off 495/27....and I hate slowing down... so I wanted to lower it for better handling. I'll look into cold air intake. Is the cold air intake hard to put on? or can a more car-literate person do it? as for lowering torque... eh. like I said i'm mainly on 495 or 27... not too much taking off going on...

So, what's the opinion on the diablosport predator? yes/no. better brand?

p.s. I'm from suffolk... East Moriches to be exact.

the cold air intake is not too hard to install at all, you and maybe a friend should be able to do it with in an hour...if you run into problems you can always just ask us here on the board...also regardless of the highway driving or not...the gears will be the most bang for the buck out of any under 1g price tag item...also for the tuner's it vary's from person to person, i personally am thinking about the sct xcal II since that seems to be favored by alot...but there also alot for the diablo, so it is more opinion then anything.

ahh a girl driving a stick!!! i love girls that drive sticks

but yea i cant drive an auto either...but i drive one cause it was free

yea about modding

-definatly go ahead and get like a K&N FIPK intake system to help the car breathe
-get some good flowing exhaust, i prefer magnaflow because it has a nice tone
-well i would get some 3.73 gears just to save on some gas if you drive on the highway
-as for springs i say either H&R sport springs or Eibach Pro-Kit (both equally good)

OOOOOOOOO! I PICKED HIM UP TODAY!!!! I'VE BEEN DRIVING ALL OVER THE PLACE FOR THE PAST FEW HOURS AND LOVE HIM!
So I've also decided that I'll do the cold air intake first(it's cheapest!)... than maybe 3.73 gears. On the link there are a few packages that come with gears and a programmer. Is that a good deal? and also in the packages it didn't say what size they were for...and it didn't seem to let me choose between 8.8 or 7.5 has anyone ordered one of these packages and can clue me in on the process? under the x-cal2 kit(which is for a GT, but do u think they would make one for a V-6?)... it says something about a rev limiter programm... please explain!

and finally a new exhaust.....

so what's the feedback....

you crack me up, lol.

The XCal2 seems to be a more popular choice over the Predator and most tuners prefer the XCal.

Yes, the XCal and gears is a great deal here at Mustang Tuning. (Go with 3.73's) Put a little money into a new mid pipe and a GT dual exahaust.

If you really want, spend another 400 for a new GT rear bumper (this way you'll have the cut outs for the tips and they wont hang below the stock v6 bumper)

CAI would help some. Just get a cheap one here at MT.

It sounds like you're going more for performance than visual.

How low do you want to drop your car? A common spring is the H&R Sport or Eibach Pro Kit (Both lower about 1.4" for a v6)

6 cylinder cars have 7 1/2 rear gear, Gt's have 8.8

is it possible to buy a new bumper painted the stock color of your car... or do you have to get someone else to do it?

It might be possible to find one that you could have painted the same color. But if you take the time and do your research, you could find a GT bumper brand new, have a quality shop prep/paint/install it for a total of about 400.

I have to drive through traffic to my way to school, my way home from school, AND my way to work! bumper to bumper traffic too! it totally sucks... I think there are times when autos are great...ehhhhmmm... six am when i'm still half dead trying to shift between first stop first second stop first second first stop first....... but i've never owned an auto... and I've only driven them a few times... and it's just not a pretty picture.... I'll actually start stomping the floor and freaking out when I come to a stop thinking i'm going to stall... or I just automatically try to shift the car myself... but I guess u get used to it... i don't actually notice any more... However, put me on a windy empty road with no stop signs and screw autos.... i wouldn't give up my manual for anything!

yeah I know that's why i was asking about the ordering process... It wouldn't let me choose between the two on the website and I obviously don't need an 8.8, so I was wondering if anyone has ordered them and if at some point during the ordering process there's something to choose the size u need.

Yeah Before i graduated hs i had to drive from MD to school in NW DC, but to be honest I like being able to control the speed and momentum of the car more...U fly into a turn down shift right before and come out with a wholllle lotta power...I love it...

Ok, so here's a nice short list of quick easy mods - Larger bigger mods...

1. CAI is fastest...it's an easy bolt on u just unconnect some things here and there and replace them with the new pieces, it'll give you a nice swish sound and a lil bit of engine growl when on the throttle...

2. Exhaust, It can be cheap or really expensive aloota variances, My Side exit spintech set up is about 600 when all is said and done... However, a dual rear exhaust Magnapack setup will probably run your 400 + install, (stay away from Flowmaster...)

3. MGW short shifter nice addition will help you change gears faster and without worrying about missing 3rd... run you about 200 bucks with a new ***...

4. Throttle Body (this connects from the CAI into the Intake manafold) Helps throttle response and gives you some added power BBK has a 65mm and a 70mm...wil run about 250, and u can intall it yourself...

5. The gears everyone has been talkin about like mentioned before a good set for you might be 3.73's, remember V6's have a 7.5 inch differential... And with a tuner from MTing u save some money, the gears alone are about 300 installed, and the tunner buy itself is about 400... Xcal2...

6. If you wanted to get more out of your exhaust you can do Long tube headers and an H-pipe, catted setups will propbably run you about 700 installed, uncatted are about 600 installed...

7. if you don't already Tint is very helpful usually 150 or so with lifetime warrenty u gotta check around...in DC mine was 140 for 25% all the way around,

8. Lowering Springs 250 + 300 or so for installation... H&R's are highly recommended the Eibachs have been known to have some chatter, and H&R's lower the car quite a bit...

9. then theres a whole Gamit of suspension stuff, if you log onto Steeda.com and look at everything they have to off they have different packages for stuff, which you'd have to expect to pay somewhere around 1000 to install each stage of their G-Trac setup...

10. You'll probably realize after all these bolt ons....what you really want is a nice V8...(not hatin on my own) but numerically u can get a Mach 1 V8 for about 3500 bucks, then some other things to get it working well allin all about 6 grand worth of stuff and u'd have a REALLY nice ride...lol don't spend TOOO much on ur V6, u'll probably wana change it over to a V8 later down the road neways...
