Default Wheels and Tires

I have a 2001 Cobra stock right now but I want to put some wheels and tires on it. I'm thinking 245/18 chrome 95 cobra r's ! With a 1 1/2" drop in rear and a 1 3/4" drop in the front to give it an agressive look ! What does everybody think? Any other suggestions welcome !!!

1.7" drop in front is too low IMO. It leads to a foul handling car. 1.5" all the way around is as far as I'll go. Adding a rake to the stance (front lower than rear) makes the rear end get looser the more you rake it so be careful getting used to the new limits of traction. .25" isn't much of a rake but I figured I'd at least fill you in on the tendency.

As far as the tire size... IIRC 95 R's are usually a 9" wide wheel which means that the best size tire would probably be something like a 275/35/18 all around. FWIW... 95' Rs are kinda over done, chrome doubly so. If you like em though, cool. I have grey 95 R's so I'm an offender of the overdone too.

thanks for the info but my plan is to just give it a lil bit of a nose dive just to look aggressive but the reason for the drop is to reduce all of the extra space in the wheel well but I dont want to go with a big tire because I'm gunna put some bigger tires on my stock wheels for the track but I want something to look nice for the road, that's the reason for the smaller tire on the 95's. And yes I got a bunch of mustang freaks around here that said the same thing about being over done but I've just always like those rims for that car. I'm also probably gunna go with a 2000 Cobra R body kit also !

a little rake is cool... my car sits like that but with coil overs it's really easy for me to tinker with my ride height (I do about every 3 days it seems) so if it's loose I can just dial out a little rake or pull a sway bar.

With the 95 R's, if they're 9" wide then use 275's, if they're 8.5" then you'll have to do some research to find a tire that fits just right. I've had really stellar wear and performance from Nitto NT555's.

I did some looking for you and for Nitto 555's an 18x9 on a mustang should use 275/35/18 for an 18x8.5 use 255/40/18. Remember, whatever tire you choose, make sure it's designed to fit the rim you're putting it on. Going too narrow or too wide only makes damage to your rims and tires more likely and it decreases overall performance of the tire which you don't need. The sizes I spec'd in this post are about the same diameter as the stock tires so your speedo won't be hella far off.

cool I appreciate it alot I'll take that under consideration ! another question though, when goin with a drop should i go with coil overs or should i just go with a performance drop ?

I don't like regular spring based lowering much... it just doesn't seem to be worth the expense. However... if you're not as demanding of your car as I am (which is entirely likely and probable) then a good set of steeda sports or H&R sports is fine for the average guy. Just do yourself a favor and get some good shocks and struts like tokico illumina or bilsteins and a set of caster camber plates. it'll ride and handle lots better and you can get a good alignment so you won't smoke your tires in 8k miles.
