Default Removing Rev/Speed Limiter

Just got my baby 2 days ago, '99 GT 35th Ann. Can't reach full potential with the limiters in place. I've looked at the various chips and tuners that claim to remove them, but from any and all with experience, which one have you had the best results with? Any help would be appreciated.

Those limiters are there for a reason... your new baby is stock, and you dont make power up that high anyhow... and do you really need to go faster? i think the 99's were limited to 130... 130 anywhere = jailtime
As for which tuners work best? I have heard good things about SCT, their handheld tuner and the new LiveWire tuner... (mustangtuning.com)

Yes, I know they are there for several very good reasons, but I am one who doesn't like to have something control how fast I go, if I ever wanted to go that fast. Just looking for some advice from those who are more experienced and know more about the topic. Thanks for the reply though.

P.S.
Does anyone know exactly what the limit is on a 99 GT? I've heard that it depends on the size of the wheels, but why would they put a limiter on a model with smaller wheels, and leave it off for larger wheels?

diablo and SCT are pretty much the same thing. its just easier to find dynos that use SCT software than it is diablo products.

oh and they both do the same thing if you only get a mailorder I.E. you call tell the service rep the mods on your car and they mail you the handheld tuner or chip.

There not the same, they do alot of the same things but SCT has alot more variables for tuning and you can do it in smaller rpms amounts. With that said its not the software really you worry about its the tuner that matters most.

And your right the 99-00 I belive were both limited depending on tire size and wheel size from the factory.

I wouldn't remove the rev limiter. You could damage the engine if you rev it too high....plus your car will fall flat on it's face beyond what the rev limiter is set at stock....unless you have significant mods.

Speed limiter....sure, you can remove it...not a big deal. Not sure why you need to go faster than 130 or whatever the limit is, but just be careful

You don't need to go 130+mph unless your running from the police. :-P.

Yea, I hear what you are saying, it just kills me that my '94 Probe GT can pull away from the Stang.

So what everyone is saying is that any of the SCT tuners will remove the limiter?

Oh totally, there's no limiter on it and it can do a bit better than 140. And from what I've been hearing the Mustang with the limiter tops out at around 130.

You need to slow down or your going to get yourself seriously hurt or killed.

99% of my speeding is done down at the track. I'm not careless about my driving, although I understand your concern

I'd assume its not at the 1/4 mile track.

Not always, I do road courses with my Probe. But it's been to the 1/4 a few times. I was thinkin about using the Mustang for road racing, in which 130mph doesn't cut it on most tracks, especially for the category it's in.

I'm pretty sure your stock 99 GT isn't going to get anywhere close to that mph on a 1/4 mile track. But it shouldn't matter how fast your car can go but how long it takes to get there.

I just went thru this same problem. I own a 99 GT 5speed. With 3.90 gears and 255/40/R17 tires, it hits the speed limiter at 105MPH. I own a Diablo Predator...and it wouldnt remove the limiter!!!!!!!! I called tech support a bunch of times and did what they said each time. It turns out that Diablo's have problems with certain Ford computers. They were supposed to email me a new program...but never did. I bought an SCT X-Cal 2 and it worked!!! SCT asks for your computer code when you order, so it matches your factory computer. I guess Diablo is more hit or miss. SO, buy an SCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or buy my Diablo Predator for cheap!

sctXcal2

tuned by doug at bamachips.com

and you can control speed limiter/rpm limiter yourself--in my case i use nitrous and if i hit the limiter it's going to cause more damage then if i just over rev the car
