got 100 sq foot of Sound Destroyer Mat for $120 shipped to my front door

got the trunk done today, will do the backseat Monday. Then the floorpan
on Tuesday. and if there is any left I will do the passenger and driver doors
on thursday.

WOW I have thought about doing that to may car. I hate road noise. Keep us posted on how that turns out, and what kind of difference it makes.

 

Yeah i was wondering that, how much of a difference does it make? Do you have some subs in the trunk? Or are you doing it JUST for the road noise?

 

i will be putting in subs and a box, but I did it eliminate the sheet metal from rattling, and to help the sound system sound cleaner.

subs and box wont be going in until probably right before Christmas.

dont know if it's really quieter yet on the inside, since I'm not done, but I should know more by next weekend. Wish I had the money to order another 100 sq feet, cause I'd throw one more layer on, but oh well.

alright, since the back seat didn't take but an hour to do, I figured what heck, might as well get it all done, so I did the floor pan as well. took me all day, but i was sitting for 90% of so that really worked out to my benefit. I started out at 10:30 this morning and finished at 4:30 pm.

oh and I still have the underside of the trunk lid to do, and the passsenger and driver side doors, but that will have to wait, because I'm all out of sound destroyer mat now.

and i have to say, she's a whole lot quieter now, probably eliminated 10 - 20 db of outside noise....this is just a guess, but i definitely cannot hear as much outside noise...the flowmaster exhaust is still noisy, but only the bass part of it, other than that, at idle when i sit there w/ windows rolled up and doors shut, she's quiet as a church mouse inside.

Dynamat is .33 lbs per square foot. so 100 sq foot weighs 33 lbs.

Sound Destroyer Mat is 25lbs for 100 square feet.

Dynamat will rip and tear sometimes when you roll it on to the chassis, Sound Destroyer Mat won't.

Sound Destroyer Mat comes in 50 mil thickness or 80 mil thickness (wish i woulda gotten the 80 mil, but oh well.).

Sound Destroyer Mat will also become sticky in the summer or on warm days on the adhesive side, and it will mold into the cracks, creases, and holes of your chassis, further quieting the car. I tested this with a hot air blow dryer, and this stuff is awesome...just fills everything it touches.

But be careful once it's on, it's a bear to get off.

Sound Destroyer Mat is also way cheaper.

On ebay Dynamat goes for $130 shipped for just 46 square feet.

100 Square feet of Sound Destroyer Mat is $120 shipped.

I probably lost 10-20 db (just a guess) of outside noise when I put this stuff on, but the difference was substantially noticeable.

i'm glad i did it...just need to get the bottom of the trunk lid, and the 2 doors done. Don't think I'm gonna do the roof, really no point to it.

no it' not exactly the same. the weight is lighter, and it doesn't rip or tear like dynamat. please know what it is you talk about before you speak. i wieghed this stuff on the scale when it got here. 100 sq ft of sound destroyer mat weighs 25 lbs.

100sq feet of dynamat weighs 33 lbs.

 

lighter = less sound deadening.

Any of those identical sound deadening materials will rip or tear if it's not applied correctly.

I'm sure sound destroyer is glad you buy into the marketing though.

Are you ever going to try and explain how it being lighter and thinner lets it work better? Is it using some proprietary space-age material that works better than the material the other sound dampeners use? Does sound destroyer have a website with any science to back up this claim? Are you ever going to attempt to answer these questions are are you going to keep trying to deflect them?



I'm not endorsing dynamat, and i'm not ******* sound destroyer. Insulation is insulation, not rocket science.

ive used dynamat in the past on a few of my other cars, and I honestly didnt notice a big difference in those cars as opposed to the difference I am now hearing in my car w/ sound destroyer.

Well I'm looking at taking out some of the rattles in my trunk (i've got 3 10s in there) haven't decided on dynamat or try to find something else..

 

This will cut out all the road noise, rattles etc.

Mixedbreed: The test data provided proves that sound destroyer works, which i never disagreed with. But their report appears to be on the thicker version of sound destroyer, I believe you said you had the thinner one correct? Also, do they have any data comparing their material to any of the other sound deadening sheets?

 

yeah i did have the thinner stuff.

no idea on any comparison data, that was all i could find. but in my opinion the stuff works better than dynamat. guess it's just personal preference of what you like.

actually i found that website before. pretty informative. the guy doesn't test sound destroyer unfortunately. I think he said in the early version he wasn't able to test it because the sound destroyer sales rep was difficult to work with.

 

heck all he needs to do is buy a couple rolls do a car and test it. oh well.

 

i think he was just trying to get small samples of each since he couldn't afford to buy all of it
